Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Semel Institute is seeking to hire a Limited full time Staff Research Associate I will work under the direct supervision of the PI and perform the following task and duties:
* Perform oviposition and oviduct contraction assays in flies.
* Maintain accurate records of procedures used to conduct experiments and collect and record lab measurements and data.
* Assist other members of the lab to perform behavioral, immunohistochemistry and molecular biology experiments.
* Work with Fluorescent and Confocal Microscopes to determine expression patter of transgenes used for oviduct contraction assays.
* Assist PI in preparation of reports for manuscripts and grant applications.
* Assist in compliance of the laboratory environment with UCLA mandates and follow applicable safety policies/procedures.
* Other duties as assigned.
Pay Range: $ 25.75 - $30.71 hourly.
This limited position and may convert to career.
Job Qualifications

* Undergraduate degree in Neuroscience, Biology or related field is highly desirable.
* Experience working with Drosophila is highly desirable.
* Knowledge of standard laboratory equipment and supplies.
* Knowledge of UCLA Environmental Health & Safety guidelines.
* Excellent attention to detail, for accurate data collection, entry and analysis.
* Knowledge of standard laboratory equipment and supplies.

* Good communication skills and ability to work well with multiple individuals at different skill levels.
* Ability to maintain an organized working area.
* Ability to keep accurate and organized records.
* Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures for handling biohazard and chemical waste.
* Excellent attention to detail, for accurate data collection, entry and analysis.
* Ability to work independently or as a team member.
* Experience with Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Prism and statistical software is preferred
* Demonstrate an interest in learning new techniques and concepts
