The Hewitt School seeks a full-time science teacher with a background in biology and life sciences, including advanced topics for the 2024-2025 school year.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach a full load of science courses, including biology and anatomy in upper school, using problem-based and inquiry-based methodsCollaborate with department members on pedagogy and curricular scope and sequence.Serve as a full member of the community by leading clubs, electives, or activities beyond classroom duties. Attend school events such as concerts and games, and serve as proctor as neededEngage fully in Hewitt's commitment to implementing current research on girls in the classroom and beyondServe as an upper school advisorWrite student reports and stay in regular communication with parentsParticipate in admissions and parent education eventsChaperone field trips, including potential overnight tripsQUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Demonstrated commitment to anti-bias education and social justiceBachelor's degree in biology, life science, or related fieldTeaching experienceQUALIFICATIONS DESIRED
Master's degree in a life science, biology, or science educationCommitment to environmental studies as core to science educationInquiry-based pedagogyCulturally responsive approach to teachingFluency in multiple student-centered instructional approachesProficient with Mac platforms; comfortable with technology or demonstrated ability to learn quicklyCommitment to student lifeProven dedication to professional growth and purpose-driven practiceProfessional practice and ability to model contemplation as part of intellectual explorationSALARY RANGEStarting Salary Range: $65,000 to $95,000 (salary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience and expertise)
