The Gathering Place is Hiring a 24-25 Guidance Counselor Near San Antonio, TX

Primary Job Responsibilities:
  • Support the mission and design principles of The Gathering Place.
  • Embody The Gathering Place Collective norms.
  • Observe and participate in morning circles (and afternoon circles, when applicable) and help train teachers to integrate social-emotional competencies throughout the day.
  • Provide regular check-ins with assigned students to support their specific goals and needs.
  • Provide regular proactive social-emotional support services (SEL) to students, both 1:1 and in small groups.
  • Facilitate peer groups focused on different SEL competencies or related topics.
    Collaborate closely with teachers and caregivers to best support students on your caseload.
  • Teach children tools and strategies for reflection and restoration when conflict or harm has occurred.
  • Work as a member of the behavior team, collaborating and providing coverage (subbing) to fellow team members.
  • Support the leadership team in implementing the campus-wide behavior program.
  • Provide campus-wide crisis emotional support to staff and students when necessary, including contacting emergency services when needed.
  • Conduct mental health crisis and self-harm assessments for students and staff.
  • Participate in daily functions of the schools, including but not limited to arrival and dismissal duties.
  • Participate in behavior team sessions for caregivers, these may happen during the school day or infrequently in the evenings.
  • Create and offer staff wellness sessions throughout the year.
  • Attend critical school events such as professional development days, school events for students, and school events for caregivers and community members.
  • Attend external or virtual training as instructed by the manager.
  • Meet professional obligations, including timeliness and consistency in meeting deadlines, among all other policies outlined in the Staff Handbook.
  • Maintain a curated list of community resources for families (e.g. shelters, food pantries, crisis support).
  • Build and maintain relationships with outside community partners and resources, and oversee partnerships with local resource partners.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other required documents.

  • The workday is 7:15 - 4:00 pm. Some evening events will be required, like exhibitions of learning (showcases), school events, or caregiver events.
  • There will be one, one-hour staff meeting after school from every two weeks required for this role.
  • There are three weeks of required summer professional development starting mid-July and several professional development days built into the calendar throughout the year.

Qualifications
  • Must hold a master's degree
  • Completed Educator Preparation Program for counselors
  • 2-years of experience in teaching is appreciated, but not required
  • Fluency in Spanish is appreciated, but not required
