About The Centers

The Centers fights for equity by healing, teaching, and inspiring individuals and families to reach their full potential. We provide health, family, and workforce services at 11 locations throughout Greater Cleveland, creating life-changing solutions for people to lead healthier and more successful lives. We provide high-quality healthcare to everyone who comes through our doors, regardless of their ability to pay. Our health care services include mental and physical health care, primary care, dental, behavioral health urgent care, pharmacy services, addiction and substance use treatment, HIV/AIDS prevention and support services, along with trauma recovery service. We strive to be an equitable, anti-racist, and service-oriented workplace that pioneers and co-creates solutions while fostering an inclusive community where our team members thrive.

The Pharmacy Resident will receive a broad overview of the leadership and management issues in the Pharmacy Department. The resident will develop a good understanding of pharmacy's important role in the organization. The resident will be introduced to the department's compliance, supply chain, revenue integrity, regulatory and financial issues. The resident will complete several projects to apply key concepts and understand how to justify pharmacy services.

Typical Daily/Weekly/Monthly Activities:

Usual workday is 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. However, it is very important to be flexible based on what is going on in the department and with meetings: 7 am or late in the afternoon or evening meetings are likely to happen several times a month. Schedule will be reviewed weekly every Monday morning and adjusted as often as need arises.

The resident will serve as a preceptor for one PGY1 resident and develop/maintain a clinical practice at the Centers. The resident will precept APPE students from any of the institutions with which The Centers has an affiliation.

The resident will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of relevant administrative, quality, safety or management projects during the rotation. Projects will be concentrated on topics and initiatives that will enable the resident to work with different areas within the department of pharmacy as well as departments throughout the entire organization. Potential projects may include, but are not limited to; program expansion, market penetration, political advocacy, continuing education, residency accreditation, QI, HR, recruiting, and chain conversion.

Highlights of Experience

PGY1 residents at The Centers have flexibility in selecting from a long list of leadership and management options. The experience can be modified as the resident's career plans develop throughout the year. The residency preceptors and medical teams view the resident as both a learner and a colleague. Residents develop skills as a clinician, project manager, writer, instructor, preceptor, and presenter.

The resident will have discussions with the RPD multiple times per week. The weekly planning meeting will serve as a formal place for providing feedback and making adjustments to the program as needed.

A custom midpoint evaluation is used. The resident and preceptor will complete it together evaluating progress in completing goals, interpersonal communication, project and time management, and ability to work independently. Resident will come with their list of their projects to date, but no other preparation is needed.

A final, summative evaluation will be completed, usually during the last week of the residency. Prior to the evaluation meeting, the resident needs to complete the self-evaluation, evaluation of learning experience, and preceptor evaluation in PharmAcademic and/or Halogen. The final evaluation will be conducted in PharmAcademic and/or Halogen.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants need to either be in the process of completing or have already successfully completed a PGY1 residency, preferably with a community, ambulatory care, or psychiatry concentration. Resident should have a passion for improving the scope of pharmacy, quality of care, fiscal health, and interdisciplinary effectiveness of the Centers population health operations.

The residency runs from July 5th to June 30th every year. Prior to June first the resident should notify director of any scheduling situations (vacation, appointments, etc.) that the resident has planned between now and Thanksgiving. No preparation is required prior to the start of residency. If desired, residents can pick up readings for and start prior to the residency. On the first day the resident should bring a copy of their customized plan and individual goals for the residency. Resident should also bring their completed Strengths finder and Myers-Briggs scores for review the first day. Applicants must be eligible for licensure in the state of Ohio and be licensed prior to the start of the residency.
