Description
The Bridge is seeking a Bilingual Therapist at The Bridge Over Troubled Waters, Inc. (TBOTW) who is responsible for providing therapeutic intervention for survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and stalking. The Bilingual Therapist will develop an interdisciplinary therapeutic plan to assist in crisis resolution by conducting initial assessment with clients impacted by domestic violence and/or sexual assault. They will evaluate family goals toward self-sufficiency by conducting on-going assessments and family/individual counseling and provide appropriate therapeutic approaches towards recovery to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
The Bilingual Therapist will maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications on mental health; establishing personal networks; benchmarking latest psychological practices; participating in professional societies. Will provide psychoeducation services in an individual group therapy setting. Provide legal advocacy as necessary by accompanying clients to court hearings, testifying as an expert witness, and debriefing clients after court appearances.
Answer 24-hour crisis hotline to provide crisis intervention to callers, as well as information and referrals to callers in need of services outside scope of agency's programs as needed. Provide crisis intervention services by being on call 24 hours on a rotating basis to provide on-site advocacy at local hospitals and cooperating with local law enforcement as needed. Contribute to overall Bridge mission by assisting with awareness events and community projects as requested and accomplishing related results as needed.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or related Human Sciences Degree.
  • Must be a licensed counselor in the State of Texas - LMFT, LPC, LCSW; License must be in good standing.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish - required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience working with at-risk population.
  • Knowledge of the dynamics of domestic/sexual violence and the impact on victims.
  • Knowledge of community and legal resources to assist survivors of domestic/sexual violence and homelessness, as well as legislation applicable to the education of children.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle crisis situations and implement a plan of action with no supervision.
  • Must possess self-management skills by setting limits and boundaries as indicated by ability to set professional limit on role separate from clients.
  • Must possess interpersonal competencies by demonstrating the ability to understand the perspectives and feelings of others; and the ability to interpret non-verbal messages.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate support groups and adapt to change in a productive manner.
  • Excellent communication skills; both verbal and written.

  • Must pass drug screen
  • Must provide and maintain current TX Driver’s License
  • Must provide and maintain clean driving record and annually update driving record
  • Must provide and maintain current auto liability insurance
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S
  • Must be able to lift/carry (40) lbs, and ascend/descend stairs in emergency shelter setting.
