Description

POSITION PURPOSE

Transport guests to and from the Westin/Sheraton and The Cassara Carlsbad by use of the company shuttle van.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Safely operate companys passenger shuttle van. Obey all California traffic laws while operating vehicle. Transport upon request any transient guests within a five-mile radius. Transport sales and catering scheduled guests within a 10-mile radius in a timely manner. Keep record of passengers, miles traveled, and any other logs required through the department. Communicate directly with sales and catering department to receive scheduled ride times and changes relating to corporate guests. Perform any other duties assigned by Bell Captain or Front Office Manager.
  1. Maintain safety and cleanliness of the shuttles. Perform daily inspections as required by department head. Promptly report any maintenance issues to the bell captain. Fill shuttle with gasoline once per shift. Ensure shuttle van is washed, vacuumed, and clean for each ride.
  1. Organize and arrange driving schedule. Be aware of VIPs, Group/Conferences in house, special requests, scheduled shuttles. Complete tasks for the day including the maintenance and cleanliness of vans, scheduled pick-ups and drop-offs, and collection of the mail, etc. Maintain stocks of supplies needed for department and order appropriately always keeping within budgeted amounts.
  1. Attend all scheduled training, departmental and hotel meetings and activities, refer all questions or concerns to immediate supervisor or departmental manager, promote positive working environment for all associates, and follow all guidelines and procedures set forth in employee handbook.
  1. Follow all of the Safety and Sanitation Guidelines set forth by the CDC and GPR including but not limited to all of the COVID-19 State and County ordinances
  1. Must be able to work flexible schedules including weekends and holidays

Other:

Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position. Employees with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel. In addition, attendance at all scheduled training sessions and meetings is required.

Upon employment, all employees are required to fully comply with Westin/Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa rules and regulations for the safe and effective operation of the hotels facilities. Employees who violate hotel rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS

In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of

the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the manager based upon the particular requirements of the hotel:

  • Assist other departments with transporting boxes, supplies, deliveries, etc.
  • Cross train for assistance in Bell / Valet Services in regards to assisting guests with luggage, parking and pulling guest vehicles, and answering guest telephone calls.
  • Assist with traffic control during major events such as weddings, banquets, and any other events as requested.

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.
  • Must be able to read and write to facilitate the communication process.
  • Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must possess basic computational ability.
  • Must possess a valid drivers license and be approved by company insurance.
  • Must be able to operate automatic and manual transmission vehicles.
  • Must possess knowledge of the Carlsbad area.
  • Must be able to respond to guest requests and business volume quickly and efficiently.

Physical Demands

  • Most work tasks are performed indoors. Temperature is moderate and controlled by hotel environmental systems; however, will be required to work outside during the course of the day to assist with luggage and transportation. Length of time of these tasks may vary from day to day and task to task.
  • Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 4 hours in length.
  • Must be able to exert well-paced ability to reach other departments and locations of the hotel on a timely basis.
  • Must be able to exert well-paced ability in limited space.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill cleaning tasks.
  • Must be able to bend, squat and lift up to 75 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis.
  • Must be able to push and pull carts and equipment weighing up to 250 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis.
  • Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and other employees.
  • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception.
  • Must be able to work and see safely during day and night hours.
  • Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment.

Applicants must meet the following insurance requirements to be approved to drive:

1. Maximum of 1 moving violation in the last three years in combination with

one at fault accident.

2. Maximum of 2 moving violations in the last 3 years with no at fault

accidents.

3. Maximum of 2 at fault accidents in the last 3 years with no moving

violations.

4. No speeding over 80 miles per hour.

5. All drivers must be licensed for at least 3 years.

II. Any driver with any of the following in the last 3 years is unacceptable:

1. Suspension or revocation for other than failure to pay fines.

2. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

3. Careless Driving.

4. Negligent homicide arising out of the use of a motor vehicle.

5. Operating during a period of revocation or suspension.

6. Using a motor vehicle for the commission of a felony.

7. Aggravated assault with a motor vehicle.

8. Operation of a motor vehicle without owners authority.

9. Operating a motor vehicle while unlicensed.

10. Speed Contests.

11. Any other criminal use of a motor vehicle.

III. As respects to Drivers under 25 years old, the following guidelines

apply:

1. No drivers under 21 years old

2. Drivers between the ages of 21 and 25 will be considered so long as:

- No driving of 15 passenger vans.

- Clean MVR

  • - Valid Drivers License in effect for at least 3 years.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

Education

High school or equivalent education preferred.

Experience

Must have obtained a drivers license 3 years prior to date of hire. Previous shuttle driver experience preferred.

Licenses or Certificates

Ability to obtain and/or maintain any government required licenses, certificates or permits. Valid California Drivers License.

Grooming

All employees must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance per Westin/Sheraton Carlsbads standards.

Attendance:
