SUPERVISOR AVP Editorial Strategy and Programming
BASIC FUNCTION
This editor's main responsibility will be assisting the AVP of Editorial in administering the day-to-day operations of TMA's monthly magazine Texas Medicine. In addition, this position will contribute to meeting the editorial needs for TMA's daily newsletter Texas Medicine Today and assist the VP of Communications and Marketing in various writing and editing projects needed by association staff. The managing editor will assist the AVP in guiding a team of writers to deliver high-quality coverage to TMA’s primary audience of member physicians. This editor will work collaboratively with writers, editing stories, ensuring accuracy, and maintaining TMA's editorial standards.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
Provides general direction to department staff and contract art directors, printer under the supervision of the AVP.
INDEPENDENCE/SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Assignments are complex and may vary greatly. They require the exercise of independent judgment regarding the definition of basic problems and determination of courses of action to be taken.

Knowledge and Experience:
Requires concentrated understanding of a comprehensive field of knowledge. Knowledge required is normally equivalent to the attainment of bachelor's degree in related field and 10 years’ experience. Must have working knowledge of media, advertising, and audiovisual, plus marketing and promotions. Extensive writing and editing skills, with knowledge of publication production.
Skills and Abilities:
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to deal effectively with other TMA employees. Must be organized and have ability to work independently, to prioritize and manage multiple tasks. Ability to plan, direct, and critique the work of others. Knowledge of graphic design and printing; excellent word processing skills.
