The Children’s Hospital of Michigan Emergency Department is a verified Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and dedicated pediatric burn center. Experts in pediatric critical care, rehabilitation, and neonatal and perinatal medicine provide care for thousands of children every year at Children’s Hospital of Michigan, Children’s Hospital of Michigan - Troy and six ambulatory sites.

Summary

Under the direction of the Manager, Cardiac Services and in conjunction with the Cardiologist,

performs all duties of an ECG Technician II. Ensures proper functioning of all equipment and maintains supply inventory for EKG, non—invasive diagnostic testing and stress labs. Participates in research projects by gathering and reporting demographic, diagnostic and test-result data on patients and non—invasive procedures. Assists manager with departmental duties as requested. Performs EKG’s, holter and event monitors on clinic an inpatients, including patients unable to be transported. Trains others on the use of EKG’s.-Performs general clinical duties including, but not limited to greeting, directing, explaining tests to patients and families, andpreparing patients for tests (may transport patients).Instruct patients on halter and event monitor usage. Performs general clinical duties including but not limited to answering phones, typing, patient registration, filing, and operating information system for order entry and visit reporting. Troubleshoots billing and equipment problems.Orders medical supplies and maintainsequipment in operational order including minormaintenance. Monitors and measures rhythms, ST segment changes and metabolic levels (as appropriate) throughout the various phases of a stress test; determines, in conjunction with the physician, medical indications for continuing a particular exercise protocol.Measures cardiac output an a other hemodynamic data. Calibrates 02 sensors, CO2 channel, flow meters and ergometers. Records vital data such as arrhythmias, highs andLows,heart rate ranges, trends and pacemaker rhythms when scanning Holters.

Ensures proper functioning of all equipment, troubleshoots, reports and documents all malfunctions to service representatives, performs general clean—up tasks on equipment to ensure proper functioning Reports accumulated test results on non—invasive procedures to appropriate personnel Gathers demographic and diagnostic data on patient for computer analysts.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

1.High School diploma or equivalent.

2.One to two years of progressively more responsible experience performing ECG procedures or Associates degree with a strong background in biological, physiological, and psychological sciences.

3.Technical knowledge of medical cardiology terminology

4.. BCLS certification required

Skills Required

1. Must have ability to transport equipment and patients as necessary.

2. Must be able to communicate effectively to patients, families and doctors in regards to tests and results.

3. Must have high visual acuity to interpret EKG readings.
