This position is based out of Feeding America's Washington DC office location. At Feeding America, we believe in offering a flexible work environment. Interns can be in the office an average of 2 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday) and work from home on other days.

The internship program is designed to give you an opportunity to complement your formal education with career-related experience and is open to current undergraduates, individuals starting their graduate degree in the fall and current graduate students. The internship will provide a stimulating and substantive work experience, coupled with an experience to expand your knowledge and understanding of Feeding America.

The Opportunity
Feeding America is seeking a motivated and passionate undergraduate intern to join our team for the summer to help connect community health initiatives with food banks and next generation food justice leaders. This internship will provide hands-on experience working in the non-profit sector and making a positive impact on food insecurity and health disparities in communities across the country.

Internship Duration

  • 06/04/24 through 08/23/24 (12 weeks total - 40 hours per week)

Hourly Salary

  • $16 - Undergraduate Students
  • $17 - Students between Undergrad and Graduate school (starting Grad school in the Fall)
  • $18 - Graduate Students

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Feeding America staff to research and identify community health initiatives that align with our mission of ending hunger in America.
  • Assist in developing partnerships with local food banks to support community health programs and initiatives.
  • Coordinate and facilitate meetings and communication between food banks, community health organizations, and next generation food justice leaders.
  • Help plan and execute events and activities that promote food justice and healthy eating in underserved communities.
  • Conduct outreach and engage with community members to raise awareness about the importance of access to healthy food and its impact on overall health.
  • Assist in data collection and analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of community health programs and initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development of educational materials and resources for community members on healthy eating and food justice.
  • Support the overall mission and goals of Feeding America through various projects and tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student in a relevant field such as public health, community development, social work, or a related field.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team setting.
  • Passion for social justice, food security, and community health.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently on projects.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other basic computer skills.
  • Previous experience working or volunteering in a non-profit organization is a plus.
