American Public Media Group is Hiring an Associate Producer I, Marketplace Near Los Angeles, CA

We are hiring an associate producer to join the Marketplace PM team. Be part of an innovative staff constantly working to create more ambitious content, while maintaining Marketplace's signature sound and approach.
The ideal candidate is someone who wants to push the edge of our listener and digital experience, who is imaginative and creative, who is innately curious about raising the economic intelligence of our audience; driven to find new and compelling ways to tell stories both on the radio and on digital platforms; interested in directing the show; organized and detail-oriented; willing to experiment; and able to pitch ideas and thrive in a quick paced environment.
This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement between Marketplace and the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio (SAG-AFTRA).
Expected Compensation Range: $31.25 - $37.50 per hour. Exact salary determined by experience and education related to the role, organizational compensation structure and internal equity.

Your Role:
  • Pitch, book, produce and edit host interviews, including with high-profile guests and newsmakers.
  • Book and prep guests quickly in deadline news situations.
  • Identify and evaluate talent for potential as regular guests on the program.
  • Field produce host interviews along with other show segments as required.
  • Train as the director of the program, including creating rundowns, selecting music, monitoring deadlines, formatting scripts, coordinating fixes, and managing archiving and related systems.
  • Serve as the director of the live show broadcast.
  • Collaborate closely with host and executive producer to develop signature show segments.
  • Produce digital content on Marketplace's social media and digital platforms.
  • Help foster a creative and productive work environment.
  • Pitch and produce signature Marketplace elements, including non-narrated pieces and host features.
  • Manage timely delivery for all elements of the program.
  • Train fellows and interns, as needed.
  • Monitor audio quality and use of sound in program, with technical director.
  • Collaborate with other show directors to establish standard practices, maintain musical "voice," and to identify and resolve director concerns.
  • Fill in for other positions at Marketplace, as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Three or more years radio production, news gathering, editorial, or related professional experience.
  • Experience directing a live show.
  • Excellent news judgment.
  • Ability to quickly write and edit smart, compelling content for a variety of platforms.
  • Resourcefulness and ability to problem-solve.
  • Independence, initiative, and excellent judgment.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Strong critical judgment skills and the ability to make decisions regarding credibility, personality, and value of material to program.
  • Ability to successfully meet deadlines and manage multiple responsibilities under pressure on a consistent basis.
  • Strong research skills.
  • Superior communication, organizational and collaborative skills.
  • Experience in editing digital audio.
  • Experience in multi-media production.
