RWD Analytics (RWDA) Overview

RWDA is the BMS center of excellence for real-world research and analytics. The division utilizes various real-world data resources to conduct real-world research studies for regulatory use and partners with HEOR, clinical development, patient safety, and medical affairs departments. RADS uses EMR, claims, genomics, and social media data to accelerate clinical development and maximize the potential of BMS products. Real-world data analyses can be used to characterize patient populations, inform clinical trial design, and examine the effectiveness and safety profile of treatments. While upholding a patient-centric mindset, RWDA cultivates a diverse and inclusive culture through process excellence, leadership development and team learning.

Our RWD Analytics (RWDA) division in Business Insights & Analytics (BIA) is looking for early-career researchers who are interested in the real-world application of epidemiology and biostatistics and using real-world data (e.g., electronic medical records [EMR], insurance claims data, registries) to assist in better understanding diseases and interventions. During the two-year fellowship program, the Fellows will gain a comprehensive overview of real-world data analytics within the pharmaceutical industry through practical insights and experiences, expand epidemiologic and statistical knowledge through direct involvement in various projects and assignments, and become highly marketable for employment opportunities within BMS RWDA or the pharmaceutical industry in general. Fellows will have the opportunity to conceptualize, implement and disseminate outcomes from a cardiovascular-, immunology- or oncology-related research project. The research study will focus on understanding how real-world evidence is used to support regulatory, health technology assessment and clinical trials strategy and help generate robust evidence generation strategies and tactics.

This opportunity will:

  • Enrich Fellows’ research skills and prepare them for positions in the biopharmaceutical, healthcare or public/private insurance industries
  • Offer mentorship and project guidance from director-level team leaders when working on projects with RWDA stakeholders and team members
  • Present opportunities to engage with the broader BMS research community, including participating in seminar series, informal lunches and networking events
  • Upon successful completion of the program, Fellows may have the opportunity to continue in a full-time role

Program Benefits

The Fellowship Program offers exposure to various business units in BIA and in-depth experience and skills that will prepare the Fellow for a career in RADS and frequent interactions with Senior Executive Management.

Selected fellows will gain vital experience including:

  • Diverse experience in the methods and practices of real-world research & analytics
  • Conduct thorough and careful statistical analysis of data and actively participate in the lifecycle of a research project
  • Make sound scientific decisions based on balance of data, analysis and experience
  • Increase understanding of how real-world data is used to understand diseases and disease treatment
  • Provide valuable experience pursuing a career in the biopharmaceutical industry.
  • Position is mostly remote by design. Must be able to travel to site if needed or requested.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Recent graduate with advanced degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, health economics and outcomes research (HEOR), or a related field after January 1, 2018 or by the start of the fellowship
  • Excellent academic credentials with some research experience
  • Ability to work independently and with a team in a cross-functional, multi-disciplinary environment
  • Proficiency in SAS programming to execute studies
  • Knowledge of research design and an ability to apply appropriate statistical methods common in outcomes research & epidemiology.
  • Ability to analyze observational data for pharmaco-epidemiology, outcomes research or market research
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to organize and present ideas to different audiences
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency

After the completion of the initial year, fellows will undergo a performance assessment, and the possibility of renewing appointments for a second year will be contingent on their performance.
