The Tahirih Justice Center is a national, nonprofit organization that serves women, girls, and other immigrant survivors fleeing gender-based violence. Our interdisciplinary, trauma-informed model of service combines free legal and social services with bridge-building policy advocacy and research-based training and education. Our programs efficiently and effectively leverage donated professional services from a vast network of attorneys, medical professionals, and other experts to serve as many immigrant survivors as possible. Tahirih's Baltimore office seeks a volunteer for at least a 3-month term to provide critical client and administrative program support for our Baltimore office. The successful volunteer will volunteer 10 hours a week and be a detail-oriented self-starter who can effectively multi-task and juggle multiple priorities. This position presents an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to grow in their law office experience and working with clients. 

Daily Activities

• Greet office visitors and clients;
• Assist attorneys and social workers with office administrative tasks;
• Create, organize, and close clients' case files;
• Process mail and organize the office;
• Draft client correspondence and make phone calls to clients to support their legal cases;
• File in-person at immigration court and state court when needed.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ability to volunteer at least 10 hours each week during business hours: 9am-5pm, Monday – Friday;
• Spanish language competency helpful but not required;
• Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment with people from diverse cultural backgrounds
