Introduction to the job

The ASML San Diego DUV Excimer Laser PS&C group is responsible for ensuring DUV Excimer Laser Products and subassemblies meet requisite corporate, product safety, product environmental regulatory and compliance requirements in advance of releasing those products and subassemblies to the Scanner Manufacturer and/or Semiconductor Manufacturer.

The qualified candidate will be responsible to apply Product Safety, and knowledge of Compliance regulations/testing to ensure ASML Cymer Lightsource semiconductor manufacturing equipment products are designed and conform with applicable regulatory and ASML Cymer Lightsource performance requirements world-wide.

The successful candidate will be passionate about developing, attracting and inspiring the engineering team and 3rd party technical experts necessary to support the demanding timelines of the DUV Excimer laser product roadmap. The candidate will adhere to the Product Generation Process and ensure key PS&C deliverables are coordinated and aligned with Key Decision gates. Also, individual will be responsible for strengthening the technical competence and capabilities of the group by bringing new technology and capabilities into the organization, becoming a recognized leader for key competences within the global ASML PS&C organization.

Role and responsibilities
  • Perform, coordinate, and document Hazard Analyses and Risk Assessment of modules, subsystems, and systems.
  • Coordinate external resource evaluations and certifications of products, accessories, subassemblies, and components.
  • Review and edit compliance reports generated by NRTL's and third-party organizations.
  • Document and track corrective actions and participate in resolving safety & compliance issues.
  • Research and interpret safety, industrial hygiene, EMC, and environmental regulations.
  • Perform and document electrical, mechanical measurements and industrial hygiene sampling tests.
  • Write, assemble, and maintain files of product safety & regulatory compliance reports.
  • Review safety-critical components and assess safety feature reliability/control reliability.
  • Evaluate the reliability of designs, processes, and materials using tools such as FMEA, risk assessment, and accelerated testing techniques.
  • Participate in project specification and requirements reviews and determine relevant safety and control reliability verification plans.
  • Contribute to product documentation through safety guidance, manuals reviews, and procedure reviews.
  • Perform root cause analysis of failures that affect product safety and compliance.
  • Assess the safety feature reliability and risk consequences of engineering changes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and experience
  • Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years working knowledge of product Safety, EMC regulations and test methodologies applicable to electronic and capital equipment.
Skills
  • Knowledge of semiconductor industry standards & guidelines (SEMI "S" standards)
  • Knowledge of industrial equipment products Standards (NFPA 70, 70E & 79; NRTL certifications; Equipment Field Labeling requirement, IEC/EN/UL Standards (EN60204-1, EN61010-1, EN60825, ISO/EN13849-1, IEC/EN62061, IEC61508)
  • Knowledge of CE Marking Directives - Machinery, Low Voltage, EMC, Pressure Equipment, ATEX, Experience in design for EMC and EMC testing (EMI emissions and immunity)
  • Practical background includes the fundamentals of electrical safety, laser safety, and pressurized gas safety. Awareness of and basic understanding of chemical systems, fluid and gas delivery, chemical safety, global chemical restriction and chemical control laws, Industrial Hygiene.
  • Knowledge of EU & Country Specific Chemical, REACH, RoHS, WEEE, GHS, & HazCom regulations; OSHA 1910 (LOTO, HazCom), TSCA, Prop65, and PFAS.
  • Assess the safety and compliance consequences of deviations and engineering changes.
  • Ability to understand and troubleshoot complex technical and regulatory problems, consult with relevant stakeholders, and propose practical solutions.
  • Understanding and experience in safety methodologies (Risk Assessment, Hazard Analysis, FMEA, etc.)
  • Familiarity with concepts and business processes related to product development, process hazard assessment, engineering design changes, field event reporting, document change control, design review and evaluation processes, risk assignment and management, in a high-tech, large equipment, manufacturing environment - preferably the semiconductor industry.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills; exercises sound judgement in applying these skills.
  • Ability to work/communicate effectively with cross functional groups, managements, in a multi-disciplinary, global environment; Comfortable interacting with regulators, outside agencies, and customers as required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with an advanced understanding of supplier and customer relationship building.
  • Proven project management skills for facilitating simultaneous projects and tasks.
  • Experience in coordinating and completing NRTL approvals for products and components.
  • Excellent written/verbal/communication and presentation skills.
  • 5-10% travel may be required, domestic and/or international.

Other Information

  • This position is located on-site in San Diego, CA . It requires onsite presence to attend in-person work-related events, trainings and meetings and to further ensure teamwork, collaboration and innovation.
  • Routinely required to sit; walk; talk; hear; use hands to keyboard, finger, handle, and feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, reach, and stretch. Occasionally required to move around the campus.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be willing to work in a clean room environment, wearing coveralls, hoods, booties, safety glasses and gloves for entire duration of shift.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely is required to sit; walk; talk; hear; use hands to keyboard, finger, handle, and feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, reach, and stretch.

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. * 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.

The current base annual salary range for this role is currently $99,375-$165,625. Pay scales are determined by role, level, location and alignment with market data. Individual pay is determined through interviews and an assessment of several factors that that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, relevant education and experience, certifications, abilities of the candidate and pay relative to other team members.
