Project Description 
RIVA’s Federal Health customer has developed a variety of software applications that support administrative and Grants Management processes and functions. They provide directors, branch chiefs, program managers, program officers, budget officers, scientists, and administrative and support staff with software solutions and tools necessary to manage their workload, to perform daily work assignments and to quickly share, exchange and disseminate information to the appropriate staff members internal and external to their community.
RIVA is providing IT Services and Support to their customer’s CIO office, Project Management Office, Network Infrastructure Section, Service Desk Section, and the customer user community. The CIO’s office manages all aspects of the customer’s branch sections from projects to documentation and policies. The Project Management Office provides a framework, tools, and staff to manage projects and initiatives. The Network Infrastructure Section provides IT infrastructure support, including networking/firewalls, backups, data center management, and operating system management. The Service Desk Section provides hands-on troubleshooting and user support for RIVA’s customer users, including support for laptops, desktops, peripherals, smartphones, operating systems, and software.
Position Description 
We are seeking a skilled Network Administrator to play a pivotal role in the comprehensive management of RIVA’s customer infrastructure by encompassing network, hardware equipment, and software systems.The System Admin shall provide rapid response and technical support for major network incidents, ensuring minimal disruptions. Additionally, the team this System Admin will support is responsible for actively monitoring network performance, promptly identifying and reporting exceptions and issues. This System Admin and supporting team also executes strategic project management for major WAN (Wide Area Network) implementations, optimize network equipment administration, and serve as the primary technical liaison with the Network Operations Center (NOC) or vendor services provider. This multifaceted approach ensures the reliability, efficiency, and security of the network infrastructure while maintaining compliance with operational standards and incident resolution protocols. Detailed deliverables and contractual terms will be provided separately to guide the successful execution of these critical responsibilities.
Responsibilities 
  • Network Infrastructure Management and Maintenance: Manage and maintain the organization's network infrastructure, including routers, switches (Extreme Networks, Cisco), firewalls (e.g., Palo Alto), and other network devices. Deliverable: Monthly Network Performance Reports, generated using tools like Cisco Prime Infrastructure and Extreme Management Center, including uptime, latency, and bandwidth utilization data. Recommendations for network performance enhancements.
  • Network Monitoring, Troubleshooting, and Security: Continuously monitor network performance, security, and availability using software and hardware tools like SolarWinds, Nagios, and Palo Alto firewalls. Deliverable: Maintain Incident and Problem Resolution Records, documenting network incidents, troubleshooting steps, and resolutions. Ensure the enforcement of network security policies and access controls, with updates to Network Security Reports.
  • Network Design and Planning: Plan and design network architecture to meet current and future organizational needs, including the integration of Extreme switches. Deliverable: Develop Network Design and Upgrade Proposals outlining architectural improvements, upgrades, cost estimates, and justifications.
  • Network Documentation and Performance Optimization: Maintain accurate network documentation, including configurations, Visio diagrams, and policies. Continuously optimize network performance based on analysis, including optimizing VMware virtual networking, virtual distributed switches, and VMware kernel ports. Deliverable: Updated network documentation encompassing network configurations and diagrams. Quality of Service (QoS) Policy Documentation detailing network traffic prioritization.
  • Network Backup, Recovery, and Disaster Preparedness: Establish and maintain network backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures using tools like Veeam Backup & Replication. Deliverable: Network Backup and Recovery Plans, including documentation of procedures and results of recovery tests.
  • User Support and Training: Provide user support for network-related issues and conduct training sessions. Deliverable: Training Materials for user education and User Support Records, including resolution of support requests and training activities.
  • Hardware Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Maintain network hardware, address hardware/software issues, and diagnose and resolve network and system problems using tools. Replace faulty network hardware components when necessary. Deliverable: Records of hardware maintenance activities, troubleshooting efforts, and documented resolutions.
  • Cloud Integration and Management: Administer cloud resources, including express routes, application gateways, and network interfaces in platforms like AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud. Create and maintain cloud firewall resources. Deliverable: Documentation of cloud resource management, including configurations and technical SOPs. Records of cloud firewall administration activities.
  • Physical Infrastructure Management and Advisement: Install and maintain network cables, including copper (CAT5, 5E, CAT6, etc.) and fiber optic, adhering to industry standards. Advise IT management on infrastructure improvements. Deliverable: Records of cable installations, adherence to standards, and recommendations for infrastructure enhancements.
  • Vendor and Service Provider Coordination and Equipment Handling: Collaborate with external vendors and service providers for network-related services and support, including F5 load balancers. Must be able to lift and carry equipment weighing about 30 pounds often. Deliverable: Maintain Vendor and Service Provider Management Records, detailing interactions, contracts, and service level agreements (SLAs). Handle equipment as required.
Requirements 
  • Bachelors Degree and 7 years of experience in Network Administration
  • Experience in Cisco Networks and Palo Alto Firewalls
  • Experience in hardware tools such as SolarWinds and Nagios
  • Experience in maintaining accurate network documentation in Visio diagrams
  • Experience in Cloud Integration in platforms such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud
  • Proficiency in VMware, Windows Active Directory, DNS, GPO creation and maintenance, DHCP, SQL Server, and Cloud computing. Supporting the server IT refreshment program, including image/refresh activities.
Preferred Certifications 
  • CCNP
  • MCSE
  • CompTIA Server
  • AWS and Microsoft Azure Certifications
