Sweeny Community Hospital is Hiring an EMT- Paramedic (PRN- As Needed) Near Sweeny, TX

Reports to: Chief of EMS
Department: Emergency Medical Services
Summary/Objective: Administers advanced life support care to sick and injured persons in pre-hospital setting as authorized and directed by physician. Conduct skills as allowed by the local protocols and assists in the delivery of seriously ill or injured patients to appropriate medical facility personnel. Provides basic information relative to identification and condition of patient. Must use sound judgment in the analysis of emergency and non-emergency situations and react calmly and quickly under those circumstances.
Essential Functions: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the following duties satisfactorily. Completes and submits all other documentation (i.e. Daily Check Sheet) as established by local operations procedures.
•Initiates patient treatment and care utilizing initial protocol treatment based on patient condition. Conducts basic life support skills.
•Responsible for safety decisions involving the patient and emergency vehicle; whether or not additional equipment should be needed and utilized, determines transport needs of patients and sets priorities.
•Accurately and completely documents all information required by Sweeny/West Brazos EMS via Electronic Patient Care Report and other documentation software as assigned. Professionally communicates information to other members of the healthcare profession, patients, family members, and other responders as necessary per HIPAA standards.
•Complies with all current policies and procedures.
•Completes and submits all other documentation (i.e. Daily Check Sheet) as established by local operations procedures.
•Inspects, safely operates, and maintains all equipment, supplies, and tools to meet standards set by Sweeny/West Brazos EMS.
•Cleans and maintains the cleanliness of Sweeny/West Brazos EMS property, including but not limited to its vehicles, equipment, and stations.
•Maintains all required licenses and certifications by attending courses provided by local operation and medical community to obtain CEU's.
•Attends 75% of all required staff meetings.
•Remains aware of all policy changes and informational postings throughout the operation and by engaging with leadership staff.
•Demonstrates commitment to enhance the image of the Hospital by performing according to the objectives expressed in the Vision, Mission, and Values statement.
•Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
•Thorough knowledge of emergency medical service regulations, policies, and operating procedures.
•Thorough knowledge of equipment and supplies used in emergency care of patients and victims of accidents, patient care and transport.
•Considerable knowledge of geography of the operating area and the location of roads and streets.
•Working knowledge of the safe operation of emergency vehicles and compliance with all state laws pertaining to the safe operation of an emergency vehicle.
•Ability to exercise independent judgment in determining the appropriate emergency medical treatment of a patient or a group of patients according to existing protocols and standards of care.

Supervisory Responsibility:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities
Reporting Relationships & Direction/Guidance:
•This position receives direction and guidance from the Paramedic In-Charge, Field Training Officer, Lieutenants, Chief of EMS.
•This position is directly supervised by the Chief of EMS and Lieutenants.
•This position provides direction and guidance to assigned EMT and AEMT crew-members.
Work Environment:
Inside and outside in all types of weather. Walking on uneven or slippery ground. Exposure to bright flashing emergency lights and sirens on ambulance and other emergency responder vehicles. Working at heights and/or in confined spaces. Potential for exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
Physical Demands:
This position requires mostly field work staffing and riding in an ambulance, involving frequent sitting, walking, standing, bending, and moderate squatting, crouching, kneeling, twisting, crawling, climbing, and working in awkward positions when moving patients from all types of locations and within the emergency vehicle. It requires frequent lifting of up to 100 lbs. This position requires manual dexterity of frequent simple and power grasping of both hands, moderate use of fine manipulation with both hands, and frequent pushing, pulling and reaching above and below shoulder level. This position also requires frequent use of foot controls when driving the emergency vehicle, utilizing stretchers, or operating other medical equipment. Requires ability to identify and distinguish colors, clear vision at 20 inches or less (close vision) and clear vision at 20 feet or more (distant vision), peripheral and depth vision, as well as ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
Shifts are up to 48 hours or more hours in length, with shift change occurring at 08:00 daily. The EMS department provides coverage 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year.
The full-time position is a minimum of 48 hours per week. All hours over 40 hours per week are paid at the overtime rate, of regular time and a half. The position will be eligible for additional overtime above the regularly scheduled overtime, when needed. Position requires work schedule flexibility based on needs of the facility.
The PRN position provides at minimum 24 hours of availability per month to remain active. This availability does not guarantee placement on the schedule, if the shifts given are not needed. A leave of absence of up to a total of 75 days can be requested only once, per 12 calendar months.
Requirements
Required Education, Experience and License
•Valid state drivers' license with proper endorsements.
•Current Texas Paramedic Certification.
•Current AHA BLS Certification
•ACLS certification within 6 months of employment.
•Incident Management Systems ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800.
Preferred Education, Experience and License
•Minimum of 2 years' experience in an EMS setting

•PEPP or PALS
•BTLS, PHTLS, or ITLS
•EVOC or CEVO certification
