University of Washington is Hiring a First Year Pharmacist Intern - Specialty Pharmacy (per Diem, rotating/variable shifts) Near Seattle, WA

The UW MEDICAL CENTER - MONTLAKE - PHARMACY is looking for a PER DIEM FIRST YEAR PHARMACIST INTERN within the Specialty Pharmacy. The Pharmacist Intern will assist ambulatory pharmacy services in patient care activities and performing assigned tasks. This position routinely interacts with public and health-care practitioners to engage in patient prescription benefit adjudication, prior authorization, preparation, processing, and counseling of outpatient medications and other pharmacy-related functions.

The Pharmacist Intern performs all duties under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Review and screen new patients at intake to determine if patient has adequate insurance coverage. Refer appropriate patients to financial counseling for coverage or charity application.

* Perform order entry of medication orders into the outpatient pharmacy computer system, including on-line processing of prescriptions, assisting patients with new prescriptions and refills.

* Assist patient with alternate sources of payment if required.

* Perform charging and/or billing functions, including third party payers. May perform hospital and clinic administered drug charging and credits.

* Maintain required controlled substances documentation and research any identified discrepancies. Ensure accurate filling and required back-counting when filling controlled substance prescriptions.

* Maintain hard copy prescription filing systems. Participate in daily filing of prescription forms.

* Provide customer service through the Specialty Pharmacy Call Center. Triage patient calls to appropriate party.

* Document results of benefits investigation in the electronic medical record, follow up on submitted prior authorization requests, and notify patients of approvals as appropriate.

* Obtain initial and renewal insurance authorization for prescription and infusion medications as required by insurance plans.

* Counsel specialty pharmacy patients as necessary to assess therapy response, ensure patients understand their medication therapy, address side effects, and assist with adherence issues.

REQUIREMENTS:

Six months of experience as a Pharmacy Assistant OR equivalent education/experience.

LEGAL REQUIREMENT: Certification as a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacist Intern with the Washington State Board of Pharmacy.
