GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Under the supervision of the Materials Manager and OR Manager the Surgical Materials Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the inventory and purchasing process for the Surgery Department.

REQUIREMENTS:

• High School Diploma required.
• Previous experience in healthcare preferred.
• Experience with Healthcare Materials Management Information System preferred.
• Previous experience as an OR Scrub Tech preferred.
• Previous Experience with inventory management.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Reviews surgery schedules in advance to anticipate equipment, implant, and supply needs
• Orders supplies and equipment required for cases
• Orders instruments for inventory additions and replacements
• Communicates status of slow-to-fill orders, backorders, etc.
• Maintains OR materials inventory
• Assists with “pulling cases”
• Assists with providing to ORs additional supplies needed during case
• Conducts OR physical inventory
• Maintains orderly storage of OR supplies
• Assures that supply inventory is rotated and not out-of-date
• Unpacks supplies/puts supplies on the shelf for use
• Limits vendor access to supplies and sterile core
• Coordinates with vendors for vendor-supplied supplies and equipment and appropriate invoicing and charging for these items
• Assists with updating of surgeon preference cards
• Identifies opportunities to reduce waste
