This position works on an as-needed basis and is a temporary assignment based on student, college, and division needs. Variable work hours based on department needs. Schedule may vary with hours increasing during peak periods up to 40 hours per week, up to 1039 hours in a 12-month period.

Required QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education:
Two (2) years of post-secondary education or formal training with coursework in Diesel Technology or related field.
Required Experience:
Two (2) years of experience in Diesel Technology or related field.
Licensure or Certification Requirements

Preferred QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Education
An Associate of Applied Science degree in Diesel technology and/or an ASE Certification.
Preferred Experience
Recent experience in a professional Diesel Technology field that would include at least on of the following areas; heavy truck, heavy equipment, lift truck, and/or agricultural equipment repair.

Position Purpose:
The purpose of the Diesel Technology As-Needed Instruction Specialist is to assist student learning in tasks related to: diesel AED certification skill sets and equipment, assigned student materials, computers, copier, audiovisual equipment, calculators, precision measuring tools, and other lab/shop equipment.
Essential Functions:
  • Work Safely and within guidelines established by AED, college, and division.
  • Listen to and understand the students' questions, demonstrate the process, observe practice, show alternative methods, and tutor effectively.
  • Work requires knowledge of related equipment, tools, curriculum, and instructional methods.
  • Supervises students in the use of equipment and materials; obtains, prepares, and maintains supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Obtains, prepares, and maintains materials, equipment, and supplies for student labs and classes; cleans up and organizes lab.
  • Provide support and encouragement to students.
  • Lead study sessions for small groups of students.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and demeanor at all times.
  • Work as part of a team; will assist faculty and the division office.
  • Problem solve and manage sensitive information with appropriate awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the privacy needs of students.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands/Working Environment:
The working conditions are in a fully operational Diesel shop setting with multiple pieces of machinery, tools, etc. Lift and transport up to fifty (50) lbs; use a computer for more than five (5) hours/day, ability to work on a concrete floor for more than five (5) hours /day. Work Safely.
