Davis Behavioral Health is Hiring a Program Instructor - Strengthening Families Near Davis, UT

Davis Behavioral Health, Inc. is seeking part-time facilitators to teach the Strengthening Families Program (SFP) to parents and youth ages 10 - 14. SFP classes will be held throughout Davis County on weekday evenings. This position is grant funded through the Davis County Communities That Care (CTC) coalitions.

SFP is a 2-hour evidence-based family skills training program for families. Parents and youth attend weekly SFP skills classes together, learning parenting skills and youth life and refusal skills. For more information about the program visit: https://strengtheningfamiliesprogram.org/

Primary Job Duties

  • During the first hour, one instructor meets with parents for their own session while youth meet as a separate group with two instructors.
  • During the second hour, or family portion of each session, all three instructors bring parents and youth together for family activities and projects.
  • Each class runs for 2.5 hours once per week for 7 weeks, from 6:00 - 8:30 pm, with a meal provided for instructors, childcare providers, and families prior to the start of the class.
  • Instructors are asked to report to work no later than 5:30 pm, at least 30 minutes before families arrive at 6:00 pm.
  • Instructors are compensated to conduct the program and for one hour of preparation prior to the session (a total of 4.5 hours per session).

Compensation

The Strengthening Families Program Instructors are compensated with the following rates:

  • $20.00 per hour

Location

Classes are offered throughout Davis County, typically at schools, city buildings, or local businesses.

Schedule

Position-specific mandatory training:

  • Strengthening Families Program Instructor Training (Layton)
    • August 5-7, 2024 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
  • Candidates for this position must be available to attend this training to be eligible for hire.

DBH is currently hiring instructors to facilitate the following evening classes:

North Davis (Clearfield, Syracuse, Sunset, Clinton, and West Point)

English

  • Thursdays, August 29 - October 10, 2024
  • Thursdays, January 23 - March 6, 2025; OR
  • Mondays, October 28 - December 9, 2024
  • Mondays, March 17 - May 5, 2025 (no class March 31)

Layton

English

  • Mondays, September 30 - November 18, 2024 (no class October 21)
  • Mondays, March 17 - May 5, 2025 (no class March 31)

South Davis (Bountiful, Centerville, North Salt Lake, West Bountiful, and Woods Cross)

English

  • Thursdays, August 29 - October 10, 2024
  • Thursdays, January 23 - March 6, 2025; OR
  • Mondays, October 28 - December 9, 2024
  • Mondays, March 17 - May 5, 2025 (no class March 31)

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

Education/Licensure/Certification

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in social work, psychology, or other social science program.
  • There may be some instructors that are trained but will serve as substitutes or reserves depending on the number of families recruited to participate and the number of groups held.
  • All instructors will have two fidelity observations of their lessons to measure adherence to the program curriculum.
  • SFP manuals will be the property of Davis Behavioral Health and lent to instructors for their use while teaching the course.
  • Instructors must have a valid Driver's License and vehicle to get to and from the program site and to pick up/drop off program supplies.

Experience Required

  • Preference will be given to applicants who have previous experience with teaching, health promotion, or a background in a mental-health related field.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

Skills/Abilities

  • An ability to accept and work with diverse groups of youth and parents.
  • Strong presentation and group facilitation skills.
  • Effective communicator and collaborator.
  • Experience working with adult or youth groups.
  • Enthusiasm for family skill-building programs.
  • The ability to be flexible with individuals and activities.
  • A willingness to prepare before the session in order to lead effectively.
  • A willingness to facilitate the program as designed and outlined in the manual.
  • A commitment to facilitate assigned groups.
  • A willingness to fill out any reporting requested.
  • Bilingual preferred but not required.

The selected candidate must successfully pass a pre-employment criminal background check and drug screening. DBH will not hire individuals currently using illegal drugs or abusing alcohol; therefore, making employment at DBH conditional upon successfully passing pre-employment drug screening by providing a valid sample. Candidates who are offered employment are required to report for a drug screen at an Intermountain WorkMed location within 24 hours of being requested to do so by the DBH Human Resources Department.

Davis Behavioral Health works with Federal grants and must comply with the Federal drug laws, including no use of medical marijuana.
