Job Responsibilities

At Lexington Maintenance, operates a backhoe or other heavy equipment as needed. Erects and replaces official traffic control signs on Department right-of-way. All sign erections must be in conformance with the South Carolina Manual on Uniform Traffic control Devices (SCMUTD). Checks assigned area of Lexington County daily and redirects signs as necessary to ensure they are plumb, and the general appearance is good. Keeps detailed records of day's work either on a log sheet or I-pad. Sets up traffic control for road closures, traffic control for work zones. Set up includes signs, barricades, cones, or barrels to warn motorists of hazard ahead. All set up is according to the SC MUTCD. Checks and ensures daily that an adequate stock of signs, posts, and materials are on the sign truck that will be needed for the days' work. Performs a daily check of the truck to ensure it is safe to operate. Maintains and operates small hand machine to put down needed pavement markings for small jobs that do not take a large paint machine. Operates small paint machine to paint islands, concrete medians and other small jobs. Operates heavy equipment during emergencies and/or hazardous weather.
Minimum and Additional Requirements

One (1) year of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, and working in close proximity to motoring traffic and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis.
