Department InformationThis position is open only to Colorado state residents.This position will be paid bi-weekly.Opt in below to receive text message updates on CDHS recruiting events!CDHSCareers$7,000 Sign On Incentive*This position will receive a short-staffing temporary pay differential of (8%) from July 1st 2023 - June 30th 2024.About the Staff Development Department:The Staff Development Department exists to develop, design and implement the training and development of staff working at Pueblo Regional Center (PRC) who provide comprehensive and therapeutic services to individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities, and to create a comprehensive educational program to meet the agency's technical skill needs for; Qualified Medication Administration Person (QMAP), Licensed Psychiatric Technician Program (LPT), New Employee Orientation (NEO), Physical Intervention, and Continuing Education (CE). This position reports to the PRC staff development site director and falls under the staff development department work unit. This work unit also provides initial and continuing education training in medical and infection control for PRC direct care staff and works cooperatively with the Director of Staff Development and the Director of Nursing in the provision of continuing education to current licensed/certified staff.Description of JobAbout the Position:This position reports to the PRC staff development site director and falls under the staff development department work unit. This position provides initial and continuing education training in medical and infection control for PRC direct care staff. This position works cooperatively with the Director of Nursing to provide continuing education to current licensed/certified staff and develops or assists in the design, implementation, and coordination of medical education programs for direct care staff as approved by the staff development site director. Duties in this position include:Lesson Plan Development:* develops lesson plans for core curriculum subjects including but not limited to; nursing skills, medication administration, universal precautions, and body systems, to meet best-practice standards and regulatory guidelines for the Board of Nursing, the Department of Public Health and Environment, and current agency policies and needs* ensures the lesson plans contain information that is accurate and pertinent to prepare students to successfully perform as direct care staff and, when applicable, pass licensing exams* develops teaching aids that are pertinent to the content taught, ensuring teaching aids are developed on approved agency formats and templates in a professional format* identifies material that is outdated and makes recommendations to the Staff Development Site Director and the Director of Nursing for updating training programs and material* supports clinical training for new employee orientation* makes recommendations to the Staff Development Site Director, the Director of Staff Development, and the Director of Nursing for staff continuing education programs* works cooperatively with the Staff Development Site Director, and the Director of Nursing to plan continuing education training* performs evaluations during the annual CORE skills evaluation* provides re-training for staff on medication administration and nursing skills as needed* works collaboratively with all departments to ensure direct care staff develop appropriate skills to support agency clients* develops or assists in the development of training courses to address needs identified and assigned by management* responsible for recordkeeping of class attendance, evaluation criteria and documentation, exam/quiz scoring and retention, supply, and equipment inventoryClassroom/ Clinical Instruction and Evaluation:* provides classroom instruction to direct care staff in core curriculum subjects including but not limited to nursing skills, medication administration, body systems, infection prevention, and other medical related training developed to meet the current needs of the agency* presents information comprehensively and professionally* designs and develops curriculum as needed, and grades/evaluates student's competency* ensures teaching materials are reviewed for appropriate content and lesson plans are reviewed prior to class* allows ample time to prepare to teach and present lessons in an engaging format* utilizes course evaluations and course reviews to ensure teaching styles are effective and material meets the agency goals and regulatory requirements* responsible for the facilitation of all Nursing Education for nursing department staff by facilitating Nursing NEO (New Employee Orientation), electronic health record training, and nursing mentorship* provides or oversees the clinical instruction of staff regarding the administration of ADL's, selected treatments, medication administration, nursing policies and procedures* conducts competency checks for medication administration* works cooperatively with the scheduling office to ensure competency checks are done promptly and maintains communication with the course coordinator regarding the locations, times, and days of trainees' clinical shifts* leads and coordinates QMAP, BLS, 1st Aid Training, and other trainings/certifications for staff upon hire and at required intervals (annually, biannually etc.) as neededNursing Skills and Other Duties as Assigned:* must maintain current, unrestricted licensure as a professional nurse, and maintain competencies necessary to the position; update nursing skills through offered continuing education resource development, literature review, in-service review, and meetings* attends mandatory education, staff development team meetings, and keeps BLS certification current* ensures work schedule is approved by the Staff Development Site Director* uses the appropriate payroll tracking system and adheres to agency timekeeping policies, procedures, and standards* supports the agency by providing input to the Staff Development Site Director, the Staff Development Director, and the Director of Nursing* other duties assigned to meet the needs of the agency including additional training certifications needed to support the Staff Development Department* may be assigned to provide care to people served to meet their needs and the needs of the agencyMinimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal RightsMinimum Qualifications:* Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited University program* Current, valid licensure as a Registered Nurse from the Colorado Board of Nursing or any state participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC)ANDThree (3) years of professional nursing experience with at least (1) ONE year experience in training/educationProfessional Nursing Experience is defined as work experience as a Registered Nurse.
