Part Time Day Shift

Description

Under the supervision of the Director, massage therapist plans, organizes and implements the Therapeutic Massage program. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission and values.

Principle Accountabilities: % Of Time Spent

1. Plans, coordinates and provides excellent quality of patient care to patients in assigned area according to individual patient needs and physician's orders, where indicated. Conforms to recognized therapeutic massage techniques, procedures, established standards, and to the philosophy and objectives of the Hospital. Recruits and enroll patients into appropriate programs. Monitors scheduling of massage therapy patients. Screens patients for appropriateness for massage at first appointment. Maintains professional relationship with massage patients to assure excellent quality of care. (40%)

2. Assesses condition of patient and watches for changes in condition or reactions. Observes and reports reactions, changes and /or significant incident to director and/or physician. Initiates and maintains communication throughout the massage, continually assesses the patient's response to the massage and makes adjustments as needed. Explains procedures and treatment to gain cooperation and lessen apprehension of patients. Prepares, implements and updates therapeutic massage techniques to meet patient needs. (20%)

3. Maintains and uses equipment properly to give therapeutic treatments. Reports to supervisor revisions and areas requiring attention. Requests repairs or scheduled maintenance visits with appropriate department or vendor. Promotes a safe environment for patients and staff. Coordinates inventory and evaluates needed for new equipment and supplies. (5%)

4. Enter pertinent information such as treatment given and general condition in a timely manner. Checks the charts for completeness and accuracy. Reviews report from previous session and leaves appropriate information for the next session as to the patient's condition and any pertinent occurrences during the session. (20%)

5. Participates in planning and implementing formal Quality Assurance (QA) activities to ensure and enhances the quality of patient care. (5%)

6. Participates in in-service programs, workshops and meetings to advance current knowledge in field of therapeutic massage. Represents the department when indicated. Serves on committee as requested.

7. Responds to emergency situation when necessary. (5%)

8. Performs other duties as assigned. (5%) Total 100%

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent.

License - Certification - Registration (Text Only)

Must be a licensed Massage Therapist in the state of Missouri. Must be certified in CPR. 

Experience

At least 2 years of experience in massage therapy, health care setting preferred. Membership in the American Massage Therapy Association is preferred.

Working Conditions

Employee is required to sit occasionally, stand continuously, and walk continuously. Employee must lift/carry a light (1-20lbs) and medium (21-50 lbs) load frequently and a heavy (51-100 lbs) load occasionally. Employee may be required to lift over 100 lbs. with assistance. Employee is continuously required to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, climb, lift waist to overhead. Employee is continuously required to reach forward and reach overhead. For repetitive action, employee is required to use both hands for simple grasping and pushing/pulling. Employee is frequently exposed to electrical hazards and computer work. (Occasionally: 1-33%, Frequently: 34- 66%, Continuously: 67-100%) The most significant of duties are included but this does not exclude occasional work assignments and mention of developmental duties.

Job Relationships: Member of a comprehensive healthcare team, including other healthcare providers, the patient, the patient's family and significant others.
