DEPARTMENTAL SUMMARY: The Patient Access Department registers and schedules all patients for medical services as ordered by their physician, obtaining all key information required to bill for services provided. Our goal is to provide professional, accurate and timely service within all aspects of registration and scheduling.

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Flex Specialist supports all the areas as of the Patient Access Service and Pre-Arrival departments, Centralized Scheduling, Financial Counseling, Registration and Insurance Verificaiton. Fills in as needed to meet the demands of the department as directed by Supervisor. Covers Caregivers on the team while on leave. This position does not directly manage any other caregivers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

Back up designated areas in the department for vacations and sick days.

Ability to switch back and forth among teams in the department.

Keep up-to-date on all department process in order to fill in as assigned.

Communicate effectively with a wide range of customers using strong interpersonal/public relation and time management skills.

Promote positive interactions with co-workers, physician offices and patients, ability to communicate in a professional matter that aligns with SCHS values

Supports the vision, mission and values of the organization in all respects.

Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients and guests.

May perform additional duties of similar complexity within the organization, as required or assigned.

EDUCATION

Required : High school graduate or GED required.

Preferred : Additional high school or college courses up to one year in medical terminology and office practices preferred.

EXPERIENCE

Required : Previous customer service experience in a fast paced environment. Organization and time management skills necessary to complete multiple tasks. A demonstrated ability to use PC based office productivity tools (e.g. Microsoft, Microsoft Outlook, and Excel)

Preferred : 1-2 years of related work experience in a healthcare or customer service environment. Basic knowledge medical terminology and insurance benefit coverage preferred.

Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.

Rarely (10%): Walking, stooping/kneeling/crouching, climbing stairs.
