Our Opportunity

SSM Health is looking for an experienced Retail or Community Pharmacist to lead our Dean community pharmacy team by overseeing operations and financial performance of multiple pharmacy locations in the Madison market. Our community pharmacies are inclusive of remote dispensing sites, transitions of care at discharge and inventory management via non-profit savings programs.

The ideal candidate will have market or district level leadership experience leading 5 sites.

Hours:

  • Monday - Friday, Day Shift

  • Year 1: 5 days on-site

  • Year 2 : 3 days on-site/2 days remote, dependent on operational need

Location: Office will be centralized to Madison with the expectation to routinely visit sites throughout the market (Madison, Beaver Dam, Fort Atkinson, Janesville, Oregon, Portage and Sun Prairie)

Job Summary:

Manages all activities of retail pharmacy operations; ensures that the pharmacy provides optimal services; is aligned in achieving departmental and organizational goals, meets all legal, accreditation, and certification requirements; and complies with all applicable policies, procedures, codes, and standards of the organization. Assures supervisors and staff have the human and fiscal resources to effectively achieve departmental and organizational goals. Provides supervision for assigned staff.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides oversight and supervision of staff which may include recruitment, orientation/training, performance management and staff development, counseling, disciplining, scheduling and completing payroll. Serves as a resource to the pharmacy team in the provision of patient care services. Sets performance standards, goals for direct reports. Works collaboratively with director and pharmacy leadership to set performance standards for the pharmacy department and maintain pharmacy staff engagement. Evaluates and counsels staff on their performance. Monitors workload statistics to ensure appropriate staffing levels. Provides for the education needs of the pharmacy staff. Ensures the clinical pharmacy staff monitor drug therapy regimens for contraindications, drug-drug and drug-food interactions, adverse drug reactions, and appropriateness of drug and dose.
  • Prepares annual budget for assigned areas. In collaboration with director and pharmacy leadership develops strategic plan and goals for pharmacy that support the mission and goals of the organization to improve quality, safety, and meet financial goals for pharmacy services. Continuously monitor pharmacy for compliance with the annual budget and strategic plan. Reviews monthly financial statements and monitor expenses and reimbursements and justify all expenditures exceeding budgeted targets.
  • Develops, interprets and implements pharmacy-related policies and procedures. Ensures policies and procedures are reviewed and updated on a regular basis to maintain compliance with any changes to federal, state, local, or other regulatory requirements.
  • Develops, implements and maintains a system of controls for drug purchasing for the maintenance of par inventory levels. Assesses the pharmaceutical inventory and establishes processes to place orders with vendors or other departments as necessary to maintain par levels. Identifies potential medication shortages and establishes processes to manage shortages.
  • Interacts with patients, medical staff, and nurses concerning various clinical activities in order to provide proper drug therapy. Collaborates with medical staff, nursing, administration and pharmacy leadership to maintain productive and effective relationships to ensure the safe and effective delivery of pharmacy services across the continuum of care. Provides support and serves as a resource for nurses, medical staff and other health care providers medication information and education.
  • Responsible for oversight and configuration of the pharmacy computer and automation systems, assuring establishment and implementation of best practice policies and procedures and pharmacy staff training. Assures processes are in place to reconcile claims and collect payments.
  • Actively assess the security of medication areas and the compliance of personnel with established policies, procedures, state and federal laws including record keeping. Maintains established procedures for quality control and disposal of unusable medications and hazardous waste. Issues controlled substances and maintains records as required by law, pharmacy policies and procedures. Reviews controlled substances records for discrepancies/errors and reports discrepancies to appropriate authority(s). Responsible for creating after hours call tree to respond to alarms from security company.
  • Maintains competency to performs duties of a clinical staff pharmacist including verification medication orders by reviewing for accuracy of drug, dose, frequency, route of administration, duration and clinical appropriateness and counseling and/or providing drug information on pharmacological action, dosage, contraindications, reactions, etc.
  • Ensures pharmacy customer service levels and interdepartmental relationships are maintained to meet goals of the organization and ensure quality of pharmacy services are consistently provided. Provide service recovery and conflict resolution when necessary to ensure service levels and quality of pharmacy services are maintained.
  • Leads the design and the implementation of retail pharmacy services and programs that are value-added, cost-effective and data-driven to meet short and long-term goals of the pharmacy. Serves as the pharmacy project manager or expert on the design and implementation of pharmacy projects and programs.
  • Precept pharmacy students and residents, as applicable.
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

  • Pharmacy degree (Pharm.D; Bachelor of Pharmacy) from accredited school of pharmacy

EXPERIENCE

  • Two years' experience, with demonstrated progressive leadership responsibility

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
  • Frequent keyboard use/data entry.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting and gripping.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Rare climbing.
