Oregon Wildlife Foundation is Hiring a Spruce Gifts and Provisions General Manager Near Cascade Locks, OR

The Oregon Wildlife Foundation (OWF) is an operating charitable foundation based in Portland, Oregon. OWF raises and distributes charitable gifts in support of fish and wildlife projects throughout Oregon. Our programs include small grants, fiscal sponsorship, campaign fundraising, and land conservation.
Spruce Gifts & Provisions team members are in a unique position; they connect people to wildlife conservation in Oregon. If you possess an enthusiastic attitude and desire to work for a store with a mission, then SGP is the place for you.
The SGP General Manager is a salaried, full-time, exempt staff member responsible for working with our Store Managers and all aspects of the operation of our Gift Stores with overarching goals of sales maximization, superior customer service, and promotion and enhancement of OWF’s mission and image. The following statements describe some of the responsibilities and essential job duties of this position but should not be considered an all-inclusive listing of work requirements.
Base Responsibilities include:
Personnel:
  • Coordinate with store managers in recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training our employees.
  • Responsible for coaching, counseling, and monitoring employee performance; taking corrective action as needed.
  • Maintain stability and the reputation of our stores by complying with legal requirements and maintaining clean, organized, and visually interesting sales floors with quality merchandise for the pleasure and safety of our employees and customers.
  • Initiate and coordinate operational and personnel policies and procedures.
  • Regularly and intentionally work the sales floor to ensure complete understanding of daily activities, identify sales trends, and take note of any projects that need to be started and or completed.
Budgeting:
  • Prepare an annual open-to-buy (OTB) budget; analyze result and initiate corrective actions as needed.
  • Prepare the annual operating budget for the stores, with assistance from the Executive Director.
  • Manage for profit and to raise the profile of the Oregon Wildlife Foundation within the communities we serve.
  • Attend meetings to stay informed about the conservation efforts our organization is undertaking.
Buying/Merchandising:
  • Utilize OTB, sales trends, and forecasts to implement purchasing plans and ensure the availability of merchandise.
  • Study trends by watching in-house sales activity, talking to customers, reading industry magazines, online publications, social media, and observing local competitors.
  • Manage and maintain merchandise cohesiveness by creating and actively working to create clean, on-trend, visually pleasing displays and overseeing development of the same by other staff.
Marketing:
  • Build rapport with existing and potential customers to help establish shopping trends and develop a recurring base of patrons.
  • Determine and implement marketing strategies for both regular store merchandise and Oregon Wildlife Foundation cause-marketing offerings.
Required Knowledge & Skills:
  • A minimum of 6 years retail experience.
  • A minimum of 4 years supervisory experience.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Regular customer service/counter service experience including store opening and closing, basic point-of-sale register operation, stocking of floor merchandise, cleaning of stores, espresso bar operation.
  • Experience with inventory control, accounting, and merchandising.
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, POS and or the ability to learn.
  • Ability to work under pressure, often while handling multiple tasks.
  • Must be able to work a full-time, flexible schedule, including holidays and weekends.
  • Self motivated.
Salary & Benefits:
  • Annual salary of $55,000 - $62,000 DOE.

This position is located in the Columbia River Gorge; the ideal candidate will be able to cover either of our stores in downtown Hood River and at Bonneville Fish Hatchery.
