Position Summary:
The Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Services(SAES) is a forward-thinking student success operation committed to its role asthe leading custodial unit guiding the student experience at the University ofNorthern Colorado (UNC). Staff members within the Division are expected topositively contribute to our mission of supporting students in theco-curricular environment and provide an experience that inspires studentsacademically, intellectually, personally, and emotionally.
The Mental Health Therapist/Psychologist/Psychologist Candidate provides culturally sensitive clinical and psychological support services for students dealing with psychosocial/emotional issues. Clinical assistance and counseling in a brief treatment model is provided to individual students, couples and groups of students. Additionally, mental health support is provided to UNC employees and dependents through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Duties may include providing clinical supervision to doctoral, practicum and master's level trainees, and may also presenting didactic training and seminars. This position is part of a clinical team committed to reducing health disparities. This position may have special responsibilities in supporting LGBTQIA community members.
Direct Counseling Services: (50%) Provide intake clinical interviews and psycho-diagnostic assessments; short-term individual and couples counseling; group counseling and psycho-educational groups; clinical triage and crisis intervention; case management and collaboration with a consulting psychiatrist; and engage in supporting consultations and referrals with on-and off-campus partners and referral sources.
Consultation: (10%) Provide expertise to the university community regarding issues that affect the educational, developmental, and psychological well-being of students; provide consultation services and occasional in-service training to faculty, administrators, and student leaders on mental health and developmental issues.
Supervision and Training: (10%) May provide clinical supervision to counseling trainees (doctoral interns, practicum students and master's interns); co-facilitate outreach programs and groups with all levels of supervisees; provide training and educational seminars for all levels of supervisees; and support the other needs of an American Psychology Association accredited predoctoral internship training program.
Crisis Response/Intake Consultation/On-Call: (10%) Provide and respond to individual and campus wide psychological crises. This includes responding to urgent walk-ins during normal center hours, providing supervision during consultation/intake times and providing consultation to peers.
Cultural Center Liaison: (20%) This position is part of a team committed to reducing health disparities and providing mental health training and support for students with marginalized identities. We are committed to practices that reflect our values of social justice, anti-racism and anti-oppression, intersectional inclusion, reduction of mental health stigma, and honoring diversity in all its forms. Candidates with expertise in LGBTQIA issues will be assigned responsibility for liaison duties with the Gender and Sexuality Resource Center (GSRC) at UNC. These duties involve providing open consultation hours, hosting discussion groups, providing outreach programs, and supporting diversity training at the GSRC. Delivering services through an intersectional lens and acknowledging the struggles of navigating college as a marginalized individual, this position will work to empower and support campus community members as they work for academic and personal success.
This position is designed to be a full-time position. However, we can accommodate candidates who wish to only work the equivalent of four days each week. In the latter case, the pay below would be prorated 80%.

Target Hire Date: August 1, 2024. However, the position is available for a start date as soon as April 1, 2024, for a candidate who desires to start earlier than August.
Minimum Qualifications:
A person hired into this position as a Licensed Psychologist or Psychologist Candidate must have a doctoral degree that qualifies them for licensure in Colorado as a psychologist. A person hired into this position as a Mental Health Therapist must have a minimum of a Master's degree in counseling, social work, marriage and family therapy, or other closely related field that qualifies them for licensure as a counselor, social worker, or marriage and family therapist in Colorado.
  • One year of counseling experience.
  • Experience providing clinical services to diverse populations.
  • Licensed or license-eligible as a professional counselor, psychologist, social worker, or marriage and family therapist in Colorado within 24 months of hire.
  • Must be able to provide effective counseling services to clients from diverse racial, ethnic, cultural, socioeconomic, religious, ability, sexual and gender identities.
  • Strong generalist skills in assessment and time-limited individual, couples and group counseling.
  • Excellent crisis management, consultation and case management skills.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to accurately assign DSM-V-TR diagnoses and develop treatment plans.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent collaboration skills.
  • Ability to develop and deliver effective outreach programs.
  • Individual must be able to function well under stress, enjoy working with college students, and work as a team player with other members of the department and the university.
Preferred:
  • Minimum of one year's full-time experience with a university counseling center.
  • Expertise and experience counseling people in the LGBTQIA community.
  • Experience supervising graduate mental health trainees.
  • Licensed or license-eligible as a psychologist in Colorado within 12 months of hire.

Full-time employees are eligible to receive tuition waiver benefits, as well as dependents and spouses of UNC Employees who are employed at 0.5 FTE or above are eligible for undergraduate dependent tuition grants of up to 50%. These tuition grants will cover in-state tuition charges. Further requirements may exist. Other benefits may be available based on position.
