EHC is currently looking for a Cost Estimator for a client located in Houston, TX.

The Opportunity: Cost estimators serve a pivotal role in planning, design, and pricing of bids for future work. We believe a successful team is comprised of mentors and coaches who support one another in learning, sharing knowledge and expertise, and encouraging growth. As a Cost Estimator you will design execution plans and develop cost estimates for large-scale dredging projects, with the guidance and support of a team with decades of dredging experience. This position also provides a high-level of exposure to executive management with various growth opportunities. The position reports to the Vice President of Estimating.

About the Company: The client is the largest provider of dredging services in the United States as well as having a long history of performing significant international projects. In addition, they are fully engaged in the rapidly developing offshore wind market in the U.S. The Company employs experienced civil, ocean and mechanical engineering staff in its estimating, production and project management functions. In its over 132-year history, the Company has never failed to complete a marine project. Headquartered in Houston, Texas, they own and operates the largest and most diverse fleet in the U.S. dredging industry, comprised of approximately 200 specialized vessels. The client has a disciplined training program for engineers that ensures experienced-based performance as they advance through Company operations. The Company's Incident-and Injury-Free® (IIF®) safety management program is integrated into all aspects of the Company's culture. The Company's commitment to the IIF® culture promotes a work environment where employee safety is paramount.

Responsibilities include (not limited to):

  • Produce accurate cost estimates for offshore wind projects; including subsea rock installation and related works
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and projects
  • Review and summarize project plans and specifications prior to tender submission
  • Ability to produce clear, concise overview materials for presentation and discussion
  • Ability to present the scope of works and the estimate during tender review sessions with Management
  • Work closely with the Commercial Team, Project Managers, Production, and Purchasing Departments in the assembly of the cost estimate
  • Offer estimating support to on-site Project Team during execution of project
  • Work with the Project Team and Accounting Department to help update project budgets and ensure project costs are recorded appropriately
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Additional duties as assigned

Required Education & Skills:

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Business Administration or equivalent and relevant work experience
  • Must possess at least one of the following:
  • 5 years of relevant experience in the dredging and/or marine construction industry OR
  • 5 years of relevant experience in a cost estimating position in a comparable industry
  • Proficient in standard Microsoft Office Suite programs such as Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Analytical experience utilizing PowerBi or similar software is a plus
  • Effective communicator and attentive listener with excellent attention to detail
  • Self-starter, willing to learn, and capable of managing multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic, fast paced environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills for senior management reporting
  • Must be able to work a hybrid schedule of 4 days in the office and 1 day remote.
