SUMMARY

The Systems & Controls Engineer III is responsible for providing electrical/electronic support of machines, processes, instrumentation, controls, vision systems, and computer programming support for manufacturing and support equipment. The Systems & Controls Engineer III is also responsible for consultation on test methods, measurements, and equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Develop customized vision software for automated defect recognition systems.
  • Develop systems and computer programs for analog and digital data acquisition and transfer in manufacturing and test operations.
  • Design and implement specialized instrumentation and modify existing equipment to meet current production needs.
  • Design or assist in designing controls, equipment, and procedures for production and test equipment.
  • Design, develop, prepare and present written and oral reports of project requirements/status to management, customers, suppliers, and/or DSSA, Inc. personnel.
  • Develop, modify, understand, and implement servo and stepper motion programs using associated software integrated with DSSA, Inc. controls standards.
  • Specify equipment and recommend test methods and procedures. Plan, estimate, schedule, and implement controls and test procedures.
  • Assume responsibility for projects on contracts requiring substantial instrumentation or computer programs input, including generation of proposals.
  • Provide computer & controls support to all departments including interfacing with production tooling, making safety recommendations and suggesting automated testing, inspection, and production systems.
  • Support engineers and other technical staff in resolving complex technical issues; provide electronics support to all departments.
  • Respond to production and controls supervision requirements for machine operation and productivity data including necessary hardware, software, settings, and controls.
  • Interface with customers, test labs, vendors and other DSSA, Inc. facilities in the areas of controls, testing, and instrumentation

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Minimum educational experience includes a Bachelor of Science in computer science, engineering, or other related discipline from an accredited institution. A combination of education, certifications, and demonstrated experience beyond the minimum requirements may be considered in lieu of a formal degree. Minimum experience includes 5 years industrial experience in software development and machine controls. Working knowledge of vision test methods, digital and analog circuit interface, computers, and applications of transducers and instrumentation is required. Must have experience with Allen Bradley PLC's, Rockwell Automation Software, Vision Pro, and Lab View language. Experience with Microsoft Programing Languages such as Visual Basic.NET and MS Visual C development is preferred.

REASONING ABILITY

Must be able to possess the ability to interpret data for designing new devices or planning new experiments. Must be able to adapt or modify process controls, generate procedures or other related documentation. Requires interpretation of complex data for designing new devices or planning experiments.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to lighting and temperature as required for the office and manufacturing areas. Appropriate safety equipment is required by area. There is potential exposure to hazardous chemicals. A considerable amount of moving from department to department may occur in unfavorable weather conditions. The employee is exposed to the inherent dangers of the explosive materials used in DSSA, Inc. manufacturing processes.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move throughout the facility, traverse within production areas, communicate with others, and detect or exchange information or ideas. The employee occasionally is required to perform functions which require the manual operation of both general office productivity and test equipment as well as the ability to place, reach, detect, ascend/descend, and position self to navigate within confined working spaces. The employee is frequently required to remain in a stationary position. The employee must occasionally move or transport up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close inspection, identification of objects from a distance, color determination, peripheral detection, depth judgment, and the ability to identify details in varying conditions.
