Primary Purpose

We are offering summer work opportunities to our SWOCC College students in Campus housing, high school students, and any other interested individuals who are looking to gain employment experience and build their resumes. This position is tasked with performing various cleaning, maintenance and grounds duties in the Student Housing complex during the summer break period as assigned by Director or Team Lead.
Description of Essential Functions

Cleaning, Maintenance, Grounds (100% of Time)
  1. Perform various cleaning tasks in and around rooms and apartments including detail cleaning of bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms and common living areas. Vacuum, sweep, strip, reseal, buffing and wet mop specific floor areas. Other cleaning tasks include removing trash, wiping desks and furniture, cleaning windows, stairways, corridors, walls and fixtures. These tasks use equipment such as buckets, sponges, cleaning cloths and commercial chemical cleaning agents (e.g. bleaches or disinfectants).
  2. Replace various expendable items and supplies as needed, such as light bulbs, smoke alarm batteries, etc.
  3. Prep, sand, paint, texture, interior and exterior walls, trim, railings, etc. Other similar maintenance duties may include caulking, changing light and outlet covers and replacing window screens.
  4. Small repairs of cabinets, furniture, fixtures, and appliances as needed.
  5. Perform necessary plumbing and mechanical repairs, as needed.
  6. Operate various mowing and cutting machines to maintain housing grounds. May cut brush, trees, limbs, etc. and haul debris to disposal area. Power washing, trash removal and gutter cleaning are performed during these summer months.
  7. Move or relocate furniture according to room and conference requirements for next occupants. This includes setting out or removing chairs, moving tables, setting up beds and adjusting bed heights, mattresses or other furniture as required.
  8. Maintain department cleaning tools and other department equipment in proper working condition. This includes properly checking out and returning all equipment.
  9. Perform loading and unloading of departmental delivery vehicles.
  10. Follow safety procedures and keep work area in a clean and orderly manner.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Work or volunteer experience cleaning, performing general building repairs or maintenance, or related duties to the essential functions listed.
Successful applicants for this position must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities, or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation:
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, using the English language with or without the use of an interpreter.
  • Exhibit a basic level of computer literacy, sufficient to use software such as online time reporting system.

  • Working knowledge and understanding of relevant safety laws, regulations, and procedures, including blood borne pathogen procedures.
  • Knowledge and ability to utilize all of the tools and equipment of the position in a safe and responsible manner.

High School diploma or equivalent
One (1) years of experience working in building or facility maintenance, or related environment.
