POSITION SUMMARY:
Introduction to Law, Public Safety, Corrections, and Security (LPSCS) is the pre-requisite for all other courses within the Career Cluster. This course provides students with career focused educational opportunities in various LPSCS fields. It examines the basic concepts of law related to citizens, rights and responsibilities, and students will receive instruction in critical skill areas including: communicating with diverse groups, conflict resolution, ethics, CERT (Citizens Emergency Response Training, or similar program), basic firefighting, report writing, terrorism, and civil/criminal law. Career planning and employability skills will be emphasized. This position reports to the Principal.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Facilitates/coordinates a rigorous Law & Justice curriculum with career-related instruction; assesses and provides for differentiation to assure student progress. Integrates core content academics and embeds high quality literature, experiences, and project-based learning assignments. Manages and maintains program’s assigned equipment, software, and supplies.
Administers developmental testing programs, subject-specific formative/summative assessments, and industry-recognized technical skill assessments to evaluate students’ industry certification competency levels attainment and/or the monitoring and development of individual learning growth and student progress towards achieving Individual Graduation Plan’s (IGP) goals.
Sponsors/infuses co-curricular SkillsUSA career tech student organizational (CTSO) experiences for the purpose of leadership development, advanced technical skills attainment, workforce readiness preparation, and college career-readiness.
Maintains professional development competence through on-going educational and professional development training, as required for certification.
Establishes and maintains industry and post-secondary connections to promote/encourage students’ participation in continuing education opportunities.
Engages, conducts, and documents minutes of the local school CTAE Advisory Committee for the curriculum’s career-related activities support.
All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.
KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree or higher from a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution in criminal justice or a GaPSC-determined equivalent required.
Minimum of two (2) years of verifiable full time occupational work experience in the field required.
Makes recommendations or decisions which usually affect the entire department/school.
Must hold or be eligible for a GaPSC issued certificate/permit in Law, Public Safety, Corrections, and Security.
Excellent classroom management required.
Normal classroom/school setting.
Must be able to stand and walk approximately seven (7) to seven and one-half (7½) hours per day.
Light duty - On most occasions sitting at a desk or table; intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping. Light lifting or carrying; twenty (20) lbs. or less.
