Southeastern Surveying and Mapping is Hiring a FDOT Project Surveyor Near Orlando, FL

What we are looking for... 

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated FDOT Project Surveyorto join our team in our ORLANDO, FLORIDA location.

As FDOT Project Surveyor, you will assist scanning, construction staking, GIS, BIM, boundary, and topographic survey projects. You will draft maps and topographic surveys, build 3D models, and assist field crews. You will work closely with our current FDOT Project Director in our Orlando, Florida office, on Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Projects. Must have active Florida Professional Surveyor & Mapper (PSM) credentials or a Surveyor in Training who will be able to obtain Certification within 1 year of being hired as a Project Surveyor.

  • Assist the Surveying Project Manager in the completion of design surveys, the completion of R/W Maps and preparation of legal descriptions using FDOT scope requirements.
  • Prepare required FDOT reports that support field survey, as needed.
  • Supervise Survey Technicians as they as they prepare Surveys and Maps for completeness and for schedule.
  • Perform survey calculations and analysis of survey data for preparing survey maps, plats and right of way mapping.
  • Coordinate and assist in preparing project estimates and schedules.
  • Aid in drafting of the Mapping Product should the schedule demand.
  • Write and review legal descriptions.
  • Work as a field crew member, if needed.
  • Coordinate findings with the engineers of the Projects.
  • Ensure QC process has been completed prior to survey products advancing to Project Manager review.
  • Train assistants and helpers, by directing their work in such activities as performing surveys or drafting maps.
  • Serve as a team leader with emphasis on technical abilities, leadership skills, or management abilities on FDOT survey projects.
  • May work with other teams, departments, and/or offices to assure that expert staff are consulted when appropriate for a project concern/issue.
  • Responsible for control of work-in-process, ensures accurate client billings, and conducts outstanding accounts receivable and collection efforts on his/her projects
  • Guide the field and office crew members in the performance of their duties and mentoring and coaching them to advance within the survey profession as their individual abilities allow
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by management.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • Active Florida Professional Surveyor & Mapper (PSM) credentials or a Surveyor in Training that will be able to obtain their certification with in one year of being hired as a Project Surveyor.
  • 2-year Degree in Geomatics/Surveying, Engineering Technology, or 4-year Degree in Engineering or related field, from an accredited vocational school, college, university or combination of experience and training which demonstrates the ability to perform the above described duties.
  • Minimum of 5 years working on and Managing FDOT PROJECTS.
  • Computer skills and a good working knowledge of the current version of MicroStation and the ability to learn how to use other specialist software.

  • Familiarity with state and county mapping requirements.
  • Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines.
  • Must have the ability to communicate well with clients and other members of the project team.
  • Works with integrity and ethically; supports organization’s culture, goals, and values.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires a valid driver’s license and must maintain eligibility to drive, as per the Company Vehicle policy.

May occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

Regularly required to sit, talk, or listen.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Regular, consistent, and predictable attendance is an essential function of this job. Responsibilities occasionally may require an adjusted work schedule, overtime, and evening/weekend hours in order to meet deadlines for the business.
