As Southeast Orthopedic Specialists continues to grow, we are looking for Phlebotomist-Floats for our Jacksonville, FL clinics.
As a Phlebotomist-Float, your primary responsibility is to collect blood samples from patients for laboratory analysis, ensuring accuracy, patient comfort, and safety. The role involves traveling between medical clinics throughout the day. The Phlebotomist-Float plays a crucial role in supporting healthcare professionals by facilitating the collection of blood specimens for regenerative medicine procedures, including Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy.
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Blood Collection: Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture techniques to collect blood samples from patients of all ages. Adhere to established protocols and safety guidelines to ensure proper collection and handling of specimens, including those required for Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy.
  2. Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Collection: Utilize specialized techniques to collect blood samples for Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy, following prescribed protocols for preparation and processing. Ensure proper handling and storage of PRP specimens to maintain therapeutic efficacy.
  3. OBX Testing: Collect blood specimens for OBX testing, including complete blood count (CBC) and other hematological analyses. Ensure accurate labeling and documentation of OBX specimens to facilitate timely and reliable test results.
  4. Patient Interaction: Interact with patients in a courteous and empathetic manner, addressing any concerns or questions regarding the phlebotomy procedure, including OBX and PRP collections. Provide clear instructions to patients regarding specimen collection requirements, such as fasting or special preparations.
  5. Specimen Labeling and Handling: Accurately label all collected specimens with appropriate patient information, including OBX and PRP samples, ensuring proper identification and tracking throughout the testing process. Maintain integrity and confidentiality of patient data in compliance with healthcare regulations.
  6. Documentation: Complete necessary documentation, including requisition forms, patient records, and logs, to record specimen collection activities accurately, including those related to OBX and PRP collections. Ensure timely and thorough documentation of all procedures performed.
  7. Equipment Maintenance: Maintain phlebotomy equipment, including needles, tubes, and blood collection devices, ensuring cleanliness, functionality, and compliance with safety standards. Perform routine maintenance and calibration of equipment as needed, including equipment specific to PRP collection.
  8. Quality Control: Follow quality assurance protocols to ensure the accuracy and reliability of collected specimens, including those required for OBX and PRP testing. Monitor specimen quality and integrity during collection and transportation to the laboratory or processing facility.
  9. Compliance: Adhere to regulatory requirements, including OSHA standards, HIPAA regulations, and institutional policies, to maintain a safe and secure work environment and protect patient confidentiality during OBX and PRP collections.
  10. Team Collaboration: Collaborate with healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, and laboratory staff, to coordinate specimen collection activities effectively, including those related to OBX and PRP testing. Communicate any issues or concerns related to specimen collection or patient care to the appropriate personnel.
  11. Professional Development: Stay updated on advancements in phlebotomy techniques, equipment, and safety protocols through continuing education and training opportunities. Maintain certification and licensure requirements as per state regulations, including any additional certifications relevant to OBX and PRP collections.
  12. Scheduling Duties: Assist in scheduling appointments and coordinating patient visits for specific regenerative procedures, including Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy. Coordinate with healthcare providers and administrative staff to ensure efficient utilization of resources and optimal patient care.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a phlebotomy training program preferred.
  • Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or equivalent credentialing is preferred.
  • Prior experience in phlebotomy or healthcare setting preferred, with specific experience in OBX and PRP collections desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of venipuncture techniques, blood collection procedures, and specimen handling protocols, including those relevant to OBX and PRP collections.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation, particularly for OBX and PRP specimens.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Flexibility to travel between multiple work locations as needed.
  • Commitment to patient care, safety, and confidentiality, especially during OBX and PRP collections.
