Apprentice Plumber

Where: Baltimore, Maryland (US Coast Guard Yard, Curtis Bay, MD)

Type: Non-Exempt

Compensation: $29.35-$29.35/hour

Work Schedule: Full-time, Day Shift

Skookum is seeking a reliable and experienced Journeyman Plumber with a helpful attitude.

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

  • Under the guidance of the Master Plumber, the Apprentice/Journeyman Plumber will perform scheduled inspections, preventative and corrective maintenance, repairs, adjustments, testing, and troubleshooting of assigned plumbing equipment.

  • Remove blockage from drain lines; both interior and exterior, floor drains, fan coil units, air handling units, stacks, vents, and storm drainage systems.

  • Adjust, repair, or replace leaky pipes, faucets and other outlets as necessary.

  • Install, replace, maintain and/or repair domestic, industrial and commercial water heaters, storage tanks, plumbing fixtures, equipment, appliances and components; including, but not limited to, commodes, urinals, kitchen and utility sinks, water fountains, cooling towers, grease traps, circulation system for heating and cooling systems, fan and air handler coils, valves, pumps, and associated equipment and components.

  • Applies and adheres to applicable building code requirements.

Qualifications:

  • 0-3 years of plumbing experience preferred.

  • Apprentice license issued by the State of Maryland preferred.

  • Journeyman's license or higher issued by the State of Maryland preferred.

  • Knowledge of national plumbing and WSSC plumbing/gas fitting codes.

Physical Requirements:

Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance. The physical demands of this position may be reasonably accommodated for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions on a case-by-case basis.

  • Position duties require working outside in the weather. Conditions may include rain, cold and/or heat.

  • Position may require working in high places such as scaffolding, ladders, man baskets, and/or cherry pickers.

Requirements:

  • Valid state driver's license is required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Skookum's insurance carrier.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain applicable security clearances and installation access. A background check and E-Verify will be conducted for this position.
