Position Overview
The Manager of SEC Reporting and Technical Accounting is a key member of the SiteOne Accounting team located in Roswell, Georgia and is responsible for managing the company's SEC reporting and technical accounting functions. This position is responsible for managing and enhancing SEC reporting processes as well as researching technical accounting topics, conducting significant transaction consultation, interpreting new accounting standards and business requirements, and plays a lead role in enhancing accounting policies, procedures, reporting controls, and financial compliance. In addition, this position is responsible for evaluating process gaps and enhancing accounting and reporting deliverables to achieve peak performance. This includes developing collaborative relationships and partnerships with business leaders across the finance, legal, human resources, and other functional teams within SiteOne to drive value-add measurable results and continuous improvement of processes.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE JOB
The Manager of SEC Reporting and Technical Accounting:
  • Manages SEC reporting processes and prepares Forms 10-K and 10-Q, while assisting with 8-K and other SEC filings; manages the company's disclosure reporting processes.
  • Manages the company's application of the following key technical topics: ASC 260 "Earnings Per Share"; ASC 275 "Risks and Uncertainties"; ASC 280 "Segment Reporting"; ASC 350 "Intangibles - Goodwill and Other"; ASC 470 "Debt"; ASC 505 "Equity"; ASC 606 "Revenue from Contracts with Customers"; ASC 718 "Compensation - Stock Compensation"; ASC 805 "Business Combinations"; ASC 815 "Derivatives and Hedging"; ASC 820 "Fair Value Measurement"; ASC 830 "Foreign Currency"; ASC 842 "Leases"; and other standards as applicable.
  • Functions as a key point of contact with external auditors pertaining to the annual company audit, quarterly reviews, and resolution of significant accounting matters.
  • Manages the review, interpretation, and implementation of new accounting standards and updates (e.g., Accounting Standard Updates to US GAAP, as applicable).
  • Manages the review, interpretation, and implementation of new business requirements that result in accounting changes and guides management with respect to critical strategic impacts to plans and objectives. (e.g., Industry, SEC, other regulatory, etc.).
  • Consults with the legal department on contracting and equity transaction matters.
  • Carries out special projects and technical assessments of emerging accounting and business issues as required.
NARRATIVE AND AREAS OF FOCUS
1. SEC Reporting, Technical Accounting Research and Application
This position is expected to provide timely, relevant, and accurate accounting guidance on technical accounting topics affecting the company. This includes the interpretation of accounting standards and the application for SiteOne. In addition, this position is responsible for managing the SEC reporting activities, including the establishment and improvement of filing and disclosure processes.
  • Provide expert advice on SEC Regulations (including the new requirements that resulted from the SEC's Climate-Related Disclosures rule as well as Pay versus Performance, Cybersecurity, and other regulations), US GAAP, internal policies, and other applicable accounting standard considerations and guide the application in all business arrangements.
  • Research technical accounting issues to ensure compliance with the company's policies.
  • Manage and enhance the company's SEC reporting processes including iXBRL and all other 10-K and 10-Q filing activities within the Workiva Wdesk platform.
  • Prepare all required Consolidated Financial Statements including the Balance Sheet, Statement of Operations, Comprehensive Income, Stockholders' Equity, and Cash Flows.
  • Prepare all Notes to the Consolidated Financial Statements.
  • Manage the Earnings Per Share and equity accounting, reporting, and disclosure processes.
  • Apply the stock compensation guidance provided within ASC 718 and determine financial statement entries utilizing the Black-Scholes option pricing model and other fair value measurement processes for restricted stock units, performance stock units, and deferred stock units; assess, develop, and drive improvement of the equity compensation management system tools and reporting.
  • Manage the accounting, reporting, and disclosure processes for the company's fair value measurements, derivative instruments, and hedging activities.
  • Complete the annual goodwill impairment testing.
  • Prepare and submit the quarterly and annual debt covenant reporting packages.
  • Assist in the preparation of other SEC filings such as earnings press releases as well as the annual proxy statement and Form 11-K.
  • Function as a key point of contact with external auditors during quarterly reviews and the year-end audit.
  • Communicate analytical results verbally, in writing, and in presentations to management.
  • Issue accounting policy updates and document positions in accounting white papers.
  • Conduct reviews to assess whether proposed technical positions are consistent with industry practices.
  • Design, implement, maintain, and enhance controls to ensure compliance with Section 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
2. New Accounting Standards
This position is expected to manage the interpretation and implementation of new accounting standards, assessing the financial impact, implementing any required changes, and providing timely and relevant feedback to all levels of management and stakeholders.
  • Maintain an expert understanding of all accounting standards.
  • Understand, analyze, and write technical memos for proposed and new accounting standards, and drive the company's policy development and application.
  • Provide strategic and financial impacts, implementation timing, and requirements.
  • Engage legal, finance, business leadership, and auditors as necessary.
  • Advise and manage planning, process, controls, and changes to maintain compliance with the requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
  • Manage financial system requirements and changes with the appropriate IT resources as applicable.
  • Provide effective and timely communication.
  • US GAAP - Maintain ongoing expertise of all changes to US GAAP that apply to the SiteOne business and serve as the resident expert. Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external auditors and execute required action plans.
  • Recent and New Significant Accounting Standards and Updates - Develop and enhance expertise regarding the following key topics: The SEC's final rule "The Enhancement and Standardization of Climate-Related Disclosures for Investors", ASU 2023-07, "Segment Reporting (Topic 280): Improvements to Reportable Segment Disclosures", and ASU 2023-09, "Income Taxes (Topic 740): Improvements to Income Tax Disclosures". Develop technical interpretations and ongoing improvements of the company's policies to maintain and strengthen compliance with the requirements of applicable accounting standards and updates
3. New Business Requirements
This position is expected to manage the process of reviewing new business requirements, assessing the strategic and financial impact, implementing any required changes, and providing timely and relevant guidance to all levels of management and stakeholders. This includes partnering with management to establish strategic plans and objectives.

  • Restructuring and Acquisitions - Provide expert consultation and support for the accounting treatment and analysis regarding restructuring and acquisition events. Partner with management and execute required action plans. Set policies and strategies as required.

4. Special Projects
This position is expected to possess the skills and initiative to conduct special projects of varying nature and complexity with limited supervision by clarifying objectives and assumptions or making appropriate judgments where necessary. This includes assisting others within the Corporate Controller's organization with assigned special projects as needed.
Skills We Are Seeking
Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required.
  • Master's in Accounting or MBA preferred.
  • CPA certification required.
Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Minimum 2 years within an accounting management/leadership role.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience preparing or reviewing SEC filings, including, but not limited to, Forms 10-K and 10-Q.
  • Public company experience required; Big 4 experience preferred.
  • Experience in writing technical accounting memos required.
  • Experience with Workiva preferred.
  • Experience and strong understanding of monthly close and reporting cycles in a large complex US corporate environment preferred.
  • Experience in a rapid growth environment a plus.
