Sidwell Friends School is Hiring an Auxiliary Programs Assistant Near Washington, DC

Sidwell Friends, a coeducational Quaker day school, seeks part-time programs assistants on the Washington, DC and Bethesda, MD campus.

The Auxiliary Programs Assistant will be responsible for supporting the various programs offered at Sidwell Friends School, including the Extended Day Program, after-school enrichment workshops, and other administrative tasks. This is a part-time position, and the Assistant will work at the assigned campus with a specific schedule provided.

Available Schedules:

Schedule 1:

  • 35 hours per week, hours are 11:00am – 6:00pm, workday begins on the DC campus and ends on the Bethesda campus

Schedule 2:

  • 25 hours per week, hours are 1:00pm – 6:00pm, work location is Bethesda campus.

Responsibilities:

  • Extended Day Program:
    • Interact with children to facilitate play, exploration, and learning
    • Plan and implement activities in compliance with health and safety protocols
    • Meet the individual needs of each child
    • Participate in staff and training meetings
    • Set age-appropriate expectations for behavior
    • Maintain professional communication with parents and colleagues
    • Promote teamwork among staff members
  • Shuttle Bus:
    • Coordinate the afternoon shuttle bus, including acting as a monitor
    • Provide supervision for participants before and after shuttle rides
    • Engage in conversations with participants and families
    • Manage attendance lists and communicate any schedule changes or behavior issues
  • Administrative Tasks and Additional Responsibilities:
    • Assist with special events and developmental programs
    • Communicate with families through phone calls and emails
    • Process payments and reimbursements
    • Support Fox Den Pop Up Events, including setup, sales assistance, and customer interaction

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1-year related work experience
  • Prior experience or interest in working with children and families in an after-school or camp environment
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team or independently
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills, in-person, over the phone, and via email
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks, lift boxes/materials up to 30 pounds and stand, walk, and sit for extended periods of time
  • Ability to travel between campuses if needed

Successful candidates must be 21 years of age or older, possess a high school diploma, and have prior experience working with children. Effective communication, flexibility, patience, a sense of humor, and a genuine passion for working with young children and their families are important. Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification is required, with the opportunity to complete the course upon hire. Background checks will be conducted as part of the hiring process.
