As a member of the Sheppard Pratt Solutions (SPS) team, the Senior Vice President, Mental Health & Wellbeing represents the organization's mission and values within the collaborative environment of WakeMed. Acting as a bridge, the Senior Vice President, Mental Health & Wellbeingis a DYAD Partner with WakeMed's Chief Medical Officer of Mental Health and Well-Being and leaders from both organizations to provide synchronized and effective leadership of WakeMed's behavioral health services. They play a pivotal role in driving the organizational behavioral health service-line and strategy, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care.
Principal Responsibilities and Duties:
Contract Deliverables
  1. Contractual Compliance: Ensure all actions, projects, and initiatives undertaken adhere strictly to the stipulations outlined in the development agreement and ongoing management contract.
  2. Joint Operating Committee (JOC) Collaboration: Work hand-in-hand with WakeMed and Sheppard Pratt leadership which make up the JOC, aligning all strategies, tasks, and decisions with their directives and feedback.
  3. Milestone Monitoring: Establish a system to track and report on progress towards achieving specific deliverables, ensuring that the JOC remains informed, and any potential delays are communicated promptly.
  4. Risk Mitigation: Proactively identify any risks or challenges that might hinder the fulfillment of contract deliverables. Develop and implement strategies to mitigate these risks, ensuring smooth execution.
  5. Stakeholder Communication: Serve as SPS's primary contact point for all matters concerning the service-line, ensuring transparent and timely communication with both internal and external stakeholders.
  6. Performance Reviews: Regularly evaluate the success rate in meeting contract deliverables, conducting thorough reviews and audits to ensure adherence and making necessary adjustments for continuous improvement.
  7. Resource Allocation: Ensure that adequate human, financial, and logistical resources are assigned to tasks critical to the successful delivery of contract obligations, preventing bottlenecks and delays.
  8. Feedback Integration: Facilitate a two-way feedback process with the JOC and SPS, ensuring that insights from ground-level operations are considered in decision-making processes and that directives from the committee are seamlessly integrated into daily operations.
  9. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain meticulous records of all actions, decisions, and outcomes related to the contract deliverables. Provide regular updates to the JOC and other key stakeholders, ensuring transparency and accountability.
Strategic Leadership
  1. Vision & Collaboration: Engage with senior leaders at both SPS and WakeMed to co-create a forward-looking strategic vision for behavioral health services.
  2. Integration: Seamlessly integrate SPS's methodologies, approaches, and values into WakeMed's existing structures, ensuring both organizations benefit from shared expertise.
  3. Innovation: Champion new initiatives that push the boundaries of traditional care models, embracing digital health solutions, telepsychiatry, and other novel platforms.
  4. Stakeholder Engagement: Regularly engage with clinical teams, patients, and community members to ensure strategic decisions reflect ground realities and diverse perspectives. Maintains and enhances relationships with key stakeholders across the region and state.
  5. Continuous Evolution: Keep abreast of emerging trends in behavioral health to ensure the joint venture remains at the forefront of service provision.
Growth
  1. Market Analysis: Regularly evaluate the regional healthcare landscape to identify gaps in behavioral health services, positioning SPS and WakeMed to address these needs proactively.
  2. Service Expansion: Develop proposals for new behavioral health services or facilities, justifying them based on community needs, feasibility studies, and projected ROI.
  3. External Partnerships: Explore and solidify relationships with other healthcare providers, academic institutions, and community organizations to expand reach and influence.
  4. Community Outreach: Implement educational campaigns, workshops, and events to raise awareness about available behavioral health services and reduce societal stigmas.
  5. Branding: Collaborate with marketing teams to bolster the joint brand's presence, emphasizing the unique strengths brought about by the SPS and WakeMed partnership.
Quality & Service
  1. Performance Metrics: Collaborate with quality teams to establish rigorous performance benchmarks, ensuring both clinical excellence and patient satisfaction.
  2. Service Audits: Regularly review service provision across all touchpoints, from admission to post-care follow-up, ensuring a consistent and high-quality patient experience compliant with regulatory requirements.
  3. Continuous Improvement: Initiate and oversee quality improvement projects based on feedback, incident reports, and best practice guidelines.
  4. Staff Training: Advocate for ongoing training and professional development to ensure staff are equipped to provide the best care.
  5. Patient Feedback Mechanism: Establish and promote channels through which patients and their families can provide feedback, ensuring their voices shape service provision.
Financial Performance
  1. Budgeting: Develop, propose, and manage a detailed annual budget, ensuring all expenditures align with strategic objectives and provide value.
  2. Financial Analysis: Regularly analyze financial performance metrics, identifying areas for potential savings or revenue generation.
  3. Grant Opportunities: Seek out and apply for grants or external funding opportunities related to behavioral health initiatives.
  4. Contract Oversight: Ensure that any contracts, whether for services, partnerships, payers or procurements, are in the best financial interests of the joint venture.
  5. Resource Allocation: Make informed decisions on staff, equipment procurement, and other resource allocations based on financial analyses.
People & Community
  1. Team Development: Focus on cultivating leadership from within, providing opportunities for high-performing team members to take on increased responsibilities.
  2. Organizational Culture: Foster an inclusive work environment that values collaboration, continuous learning, and mutual respect.
  3. Stakeholder Relationships: Strengthen relationships with community leaders, advocacy groups, and other key stakeholders to further the joint venture's mission.
  4. Conflict Resolution: Act as a mediator in any disputes or misunderstandings between SPS and WakeMed staff, ensuring a harmonious work environment.
  5. Public Relations : Represent the joint venture at public events, conferences, and media appearances, highlighting the positive impact of the collaboration in the community.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Education:
  1. Master's Degree in business, healthcare administration, or behavioral health discipline.
Experience:
  1. Minimum of ten years of leadership experience in healthcare, with substantial emphasis on behavioral health.
  2. Demonstrated expertise in nurturing strategic development and execution in a matrixed reporting structure and multifaceted healthcare landscape.
  3. Solid background in fostering symbiotic relationships with clinical leaders, ensuring shared vision and collaborative action.

Reporting Relationships:
  1. Reports to the Vice President & COO, SPS
  2. For day-to-day operations of WakeMed Health, reports to Chief Operating Officer, WakeMed
  3. Supervises the assigned direct reports as mutually decided by SPS and WakeMed.
