Summary of Responsibilities:

The Bilingual Mental Health Therapist provides clinical services to assigned “newcomer” youths from Central and South America and their caregivers who are referred for intensive in-home crisis stabilization services. Services may include clinical assessments; treatment planning; individual, family, play and group psychotherapy; crisis intervention; consultation with teachers, administrators, and other school personnel; maintenance of clinical records and documentation; and on call crisis response during designated shifts. The Mental Health Therapist works closely with the in–home stabilizers to develop and implement service plans and attends all required meetings as well as in-service education for the program and Sheppard Pratt. Some evenings and weekends may be required.

Qualifications:

  • Maintains any one of the following professional licenses in good standing in the State of Maryland: Licensed Certified Social Worker-Clinical (LCSW-C), Licensed Certified Professional Counselor (LCPC), Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Master’s Social Worker (LMSW), or Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC).
  • Experience working with at-risk adolescents and families preferred.
  • Valid local driver’s license with 3 points or less.
  • Must speak fluent Spanish.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides clinical assessment and treatment services to assigned clients. These services may include:
    • Clinical assessments
    • Treatment planning
    • Individual psychotherapy/counseling
    • Family psychotherapy/counseling
    • Group psychotherapy/counseling
    • Crisis intervention/safety planning
    • Treatment monitoring, evaluation, termination, and referral
    • Consultation and collaboration with other providers and school personnel
    • On-call crisis services by phone or in person during designated shifts
  • Maintains demonstrated proficiency in child-oriented psychotherapies and childhood disorders by submitting documentation of continuing education in this area.
  • Maintains at least the required minimum case load (10 clients) and productivity requirements as interpreted by our county contract monitor.
  • Completes all required documentation in a timely manner and ensures maintenance of complete clinical record always for each assigned client as directed by policies and procedures, including but not limited to:
    • Completing clinical psychosocial assessments for each new client within required timelines
    • Completing initial and subsequent Individual Treatment Plans (ITPs) within required timelines.
    • Documenting and filing progress notes within 24 hours of each psychotherapy/ counseling session.
    • Obtaining and maintaining accurate client personal data, consents, and relevant collateral documentation.
    • Responding to failed appointments by clients with documented outreach and/or timely notification of discharge.
    • Completing all required discharge documentation within required timelines.
    • Maintaining all assigned client mental health charts in good and complete order.
    • Participates in weekly individual or group supervision with assigned clinically licensed supervisor.
    • Attends and/or obtains minutes of weekly staff meetings to remain abreast of program issues, policy and procedure changes, and training content.
    • Participates in agency required meetings and in-service programs.
    • Completes required agency reports.
    • Completes on-call duty as assigned.
    • Performs all duties in compliance with OMHC policies and procedures and with State of Maryland COMAR 10.21 Regulations.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
