University of Southern California is Hiring a Resident/Fellow Physician - Keck Family Medicine Residency - Full Time 8 Hour Days (Exempt) (Non-Union) Near Los Angeles, CA

The resident or fellow physician is both a learner and provider of medical care. The resident or fellow physician provides patient care matching with the individual physician's level of advancement and competence. Responsibilities include supervised patient care activities within the scope of their level of training and competence, participation in the educational activities of the training program, assumption of responsibility for teaching and supervising other residents and students as appropriate, participation in institutional quality and process improvement initiatives and engagement as a member of the interprofessional team.
Essential Duties:
  • Participates in safe, effective and compassionate patient care under the supervision of an attending faculty physician whose clinical privileges are appropriate to the activities in which the resident is engaged. The attending faculty physician retains responsibility for care of the patient. As training progresses, resident/fellow physicians are expected to gain competence, progressing to more indirect supervision. (Refer to Supervision of Residents policy.)
  • 1. Performs initial and ongoing assessment of patient's medical, physical and psychosocial status.
  • 2. Performs history and physical examination; develops assessment and treatment plans.
  • 3. Performs clinical rounds as part of the interprofessional team.
  • 4. Develops and documents admission, progress, procedure and discharge notes.
  • 5. Orders tests, examinations, medications and therapies.
  • 6. Works with interprofessional team to arrange for discharge and after care.
  • 7. Provides patient education and counseling covering health status, test results, disease process and discharge planning.
  • 8. Performs procedures consistent with demonstrated competency.
  • 9. Assists in surgery consistent with demonstrated competency.
  • 10. Actively engages with the interprofessional clinical team.
  • 11. Engages in quality and process improvement activities; completes hospital training as required/assigned; complies with changes in practice as identified in periodic hospital bulletins, such as IT, pharmacy and laboratory updates.
  • 12. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
  • Req M.D. Graduate of a medical school accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME); OR •Graduate of a college of osteopathic medicine accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA)
  • Req Specialized/technical training •Graduate of a medical school outside the United States with a valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) Acceptance into a residency/fellowship training program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)
  • Req Graduate of an accredited medical school (as above)
  • Req Successful completion of any pre-requisite training specified by the ACGME and the specific Residency Review Committee of the specialty to which they have been accepted
  • Req Ability to provide diagnostic treatment and counseling services.
  • Req Ability to analyze situations and take effective action.
  • Req Excellent interpersonal skills in order to interact with physicians, nurses, other staff, students, etc. Possess a high degree of confidentiality, discretion, and professionalism.
Preferred Qualifications:
Required Licenses/Certifications:
  • Req Medical Doctor A United States, Canadian, and international graduate from a Board-approved medical school who has not already completed 36 months of accredited training, does not hold a physician's and surgeon's license, passed all required examinations, and is accepted in an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited postgraduate training program in California must obtain a Postgraduate Training License (PTL) within 180 days of enrollment. •The postgraduate training license may be valid for up to 39 months if the resident is enrolled in an ACGME-accredited residency program in California. This allows the resident to complete the 36 months of required training for licensure and grants the resident 90 days to obtain the physician's and surgeon's license while they continue their training. If the physician's and surgeon's license is not issued by the end of the 90-day grace period, all clinical services in California must cease.
  • Req Medical Doctor A resident/fellow having completed 36 months of accredited training, prior to hire, must hold a valid California Physicians and Surgeons license.
  • Req Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date.
  • Req Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association within 180 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date.
  • Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)
The annual base salary range for this position is $52,000.00 - $82,560.00.
