REPORTS TO : MA Academic Program Lead of Classical Education
NORMAL WORK AREA : Classical Conversations Network Site of SEU/Remote
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED
A Ph.D. in History that meets the course requirements of the Master of Arts in Classical Studies degree.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
At least three to five years of experience in course instruction at the graduate level and some experience with course development at the graduate level. Essential requirements include a willingness to receive on-the-job training in specific areas of skill associated with a classical Christian method of education. With the ability to withstand the rigor of providing online instruction through an LMS, Zoom (or other virtual systems), manage asynchronous and synchronous learning environments, and assessment of graduate-level student work.

Six months.
DUTIES AND OTHER JOB-RELATED ACTIVITIES
Primary functions: The professor of history guides adult, classical, Christian learners through an accredited Master of Arts in Classical Studies in History.
Examples of duties:
Duties include but may not be limited to:
1. Complete one to two master's level courses (5000 level) per semester.
2. Provide weekly assessments to students based on performance, engagement, meeting assignment requirements, and personal growth/progress.
3. Conduct 4-6 synchronous discussions for each course so students practice the skill of dialectic and inquiry following the Socratic method.
4. Model for students what it means to be a historian; modeling what is true, good, and beautiful concerning classical archetypes of a historical past (and those whoportrayed them), the application of witnesses, true inquiry, and sound
interpretation exploring the aprioristic examples of the past, discerning bias, and rightly applying historical context to assess history.
5. Assist with the development of HIST courses in your area of expertise as needed.
6. Complete a one-hour after-action review each semester with an MA team liaison to assess outcomes and review course objectives.
7. Conduct courses each semester through an LMS platform and utilize the MA resource portal to source additional material and facilitate content management.
8. Be knowledgeable of Southeastern University's resources for graduate student academic success (such as library tools for research, writing resources, or thesis support).
9. Support students as they engage in the learning process and provide helpful feedback and suggestions on ways to thrive in a graduate learning environment.
10. Communicate regularly throughout the semester with the MA academic liaison on student progress and performance, and course outcomes.
KEY OUTCOMES
1. Host one to two 15-week HIST courses in the MA for Fall and Spring semesters.
2. Foster the MA's vision to assist cohorts of three to fifteen students in maintaining academic degree plans arranged in a six-course sequence in HIST graduate within a minimum of three years.
3. Seek to encourage the natural course of inquiry in students through the process of dialectic resisting to engage in a purely didactic mode of instruction.
4. Encourage and support the program's goal of the MA to integrate an additional eighteen to twenty-two students' experience each year in "the Christian pedagogy of History" as part of a classical Christian education for the EDUC Pedagogy concentration of the MA.
5. Create harmonious interactions with the other HIST PhDs along the extended MA Faculty Affairs liaison and team.

DISCLAIMERS
Faculty appointments are directly with Southeastern University, located in Lakeland, Florida, and not with Classical Conversations Inc. or its affiliates.
Socratic discussion prompts on the part of the faculty member is the common practice for the duration of the MA, while the didactic lecture and notetaking format is extremely limited.
The MA with a concentration in HIST is integrated with the MA's core requirements of EDUC Pedagogy and is not seen as a separate entity within the program.
