Basic Functions
Santa Barbara City College is seeking PT faculty for Older Adults - Creative English courses at the School of Extended Learning.
The starting noncredit adjunct rate from salary table 25 is $63.45 per hour-Lecture and $47.59 per hour-Lab. If you have an advanced degree, the rate is $66.15 per hour-Lecture and $49.61 per hour-Lab.
Representative Duties
Provide quality instructions, create and maintain an environment which emphasizes teaching and learning and encourages free discussion of ideas, interests and issues. Primary duties of adjunct faculty members are related to curriculum and teaching. Provide instruction to students in noncredit courses in accordance with course outlines, semester schedule and college mission which may include multilevel, day, evening, and weekend courses. Plan lessons and prepare instructional materials including syllabus. Utilize technology as part of classroom instruction. Monitor student progress and modify approaches as needed for effectiveness.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree with a major related to the subject of the course taught, and either:
1. (A) Thirty hours or two semester units of course work or class work in understanding the needs of the older adult taken at an accredited institution of higher education or approved by the district. This requirement may be completed concurrently during the first year of employment as a noncredit instructor; OR (B) One year of professional experience working with older adults OR

2. Associate degree with a major related to the subject of the course taught AND
two years of occupational experience related to the subject of the course taught; AND sixty hours or four semester units of coursework or classwork in understanding the needs of the older adult, taken at an accredited institution of higher education or approved by the district. This last requirement may be completed concurrently during the first year of employment as a noncredit instructor.
Possession of a full-time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in the subject matter OR
For courses in an occupation for which the district offers or has offered apprenticeship instruction, the minimum qualifications for noncredit apprenticeship instructors in that occupation, as specified in title 5 section 53413.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Previous teaching experience to adults who are entering, re-entering, upskilling, or transforming within the workplace.
Sensitivity to and respect of the diverse and wide range of students in class.
Ability to foster a sense of belonging and inclusion in class.
