Job Summary

The San Mateo County Event Center is a public assembly facility which hosts a wide variety of events and produces the San Mateo County Fair, and operates the Jockey Club, a satellite wagering facility for horseracing. The parking cashier performs cashiering and attendant functions in the parking lot of the Event Center. Essential Functions/Responsibilities

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Greet each patron entering through parking booth.
  • Collect revenues and issue parking tickets as vehicles enter the parking area.
  • Direct vehicles to specific parking area as appropriate.
  • Assist patrons with questions and provide courteous and professional level of customer service.
  • Responsible for counting/balancing cash bank at end of every shift.
  • Maintains in good working order all inventory received such as radios, signage, flags, vests, flashlights, cones, delineators, bicycles, etc.
  • Set parking equipment in locations in the lot as directed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must be friendly with a clean and neat appearance.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain composure and to exercise sound judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining good relations with guests and patrons.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Must have experience handling cash and credit card transactions.
  • Requires being punctual, responsible, reliable and dependable to fulfill job obligations. 
  • Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with management, co-workers, clients and customers using principles of good customer service.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Able to perform tasks without direct supervision.
  • Must be able to work outside in all outdoor weather conditions.
  • Flexible schedule – ability to work nights, weekends and holidays as required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities to perform the responsibilities of this position.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid California driver’s license and current automobile insurance.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time. A majority of the work is outdoors and employee may be subject to various weather related environments. The employee is frequently required to make repetitive hand movements in the performance of daily duties. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to speak, hear and see. Vision requirements are close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
