Communications Strategist and Grant Writer
The Daughters of the American Revolutions Office of Development has several newly created positions who will join an existing dedicated team of development professionals as we prepare to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States and the many other milestones to come in the next decade.
The Society is preparing for and investing in expanding the Office of Development to assist our donors in their philanthropy. This is an excellent opportunity for mission-driven communicators who love o pportunities to leave a lasting impact.
The Communications Strategist and Grant Writer role is responsible for managing the development, creation, coordination, and implementation of communications and materials, including print, digital, and video components, as well as creating high quality grant proposals and applications.
Position Responsibilities:
Serves as the chief copywriter for the Development office and provide oversight and coordination of all materials and messages.
Researches, conceptualizes, and writes compelling copy for informational, promotional, campaign and public relations projects to support Development initiatives.
Produces donor meeting materials, speeches, brochures, articles, features, marketing collateral, newsletters, web pages, and other materials as needed.
Plays a key role in the planning, development, and implementing of creative strategies for all fundraising initiatives.
Regularly reviews Development web pages and microsites to coordinate necessary content updates.
Works with office leadership to create and manage a multi-year grants calendar, with a schedule for prospecting, the departments communication plan, and individual plans and timelines.
Develops, manages, solicits, and stewards a portfolio of 25 - 50 prospective and current funders; including researching, cultivating, and stewarding relationships with foundation contacts to create an ongoing donor pipeline.
Coaches staff on their roles in the grant seeking, philanthropy, and storytelling process.
Qualifications:
Education:
BA or BS degree or equivalent work experience in a fundraising/development office required.
Experience:
Minimum of 6 years of successful experience in philanthropy/nonprofit communications, donor relations, and or/or major and planned gift fundraising, along with proven foundation grant writing experience.
Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills, for all media, including excellent command of language, grammar, and spelling.
Must be self-motivated and skilled at building strong donor relationships.
Work experience that reflects a thorough understanding and knowledge of appropriate foundation solicitation methods.
Proven skill in building a pipeline of prospective foundation funders and experience managing a grant portfolio.
Ability to prioritize tasks and workload, and to anticipate needs and plan accordingly.
Demonstrated ability to integrate data into decision-making and strategy development.
This position is on-site and will require the ability to travel 10% of the time, including weekends, on a seasonal basis for regional conventions.
All members of this office are expected to work the month of June in preparation for the Societys annual convention, Continental Congress.
