Description
The San Francisco SPCA is working hard to make change and we need your help!
As many know, a growing shortage of veterinarians is impacting hundreds of thousands of California’s shelter and companion animals. We’re seeing delays in medical treatment, overcrowding in the shelters, and more outbreaks of disease. Sometimes, shelters are left with no other option than to euthanize treatable, adoptable pets, while some pet guardians are forced to surrender their animals because they cannot get the care they need.
The San Francisco SPCA is seeking a qualified, experienced veterinary assistant who wants to contribute to our goals by helping to fill open shifts with our Stockton shelter partners. Interested professionals with proven veterinary assistant skills, a commitment to teamwork, a positive attitude for problem solving and communication, and the desire to learn and grow should apply. Previous experience in High Quality High Volume Spay Neuter (HQHVSN), animal welfare or shelter setting is preferred.
Shifts are scheduled based upon your availability.
Essential Duties:
Salary and Benefits
Compensation is $23 per hour during HQHVSN clinics (approximately 8 hours)
Benefits: On-call Veterinary Assistants supporting the SF SPCA mission in the Central Valley will be offered all state-mandated benefits as well as a voluntary benefits package provided by a third-party partner organization.
The SF SPCA is an Equal Opportunity Employer and welcomes everyone! We know diversity drives innovation and brings new perspectives. We consider our differences valuable assets that help us continually strive to be better at what we do.
If you are ready to use your experience to make an impact with a well-established, mission-oriented organization and feed your soul in the process, we want to hear from you!

ng we can to help them. OUR HISTORY IS SAVING ANIMALS In 1868, Banker James Sloan Hutchinson caught sight of two men dragging a terrified hog along the rough cobblestone street in San Francisco. Appalled, Hutchinson stepped in to stop the cruelty and rescue the hog. The incident crystallized Hutchinsons concern over widespread animal abuse, and he soon rallied 15 like-minded citizens to found the San Francisco SPCA. Today we are a mighty presence in the animal welfare community. Our vision is about creating a community where pets can live their best lives. Where animals not only have loving homes, but also access to medical care and the best welfare. We ask ourselves: How can we improve the quality of life for cats and dogsand the people who love them?
