Established as a community non-profit in 1972, The Center provides targeted programs and services to the full diversity of the San Diego LGBTQ community. The mission of The Center is to enhance and sustain the health and well-being of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, transgender, nonbinary, immigrant, and HIV communities for the betterment of our entire San Diego region. Our vision is to create a Center and Center culture where every person feels and knows that they are welcomed, valued, and supported. As the beacon for our regional LGBTQ community, we actively recommit to being a more vibrant, bold, innovative, safe, and modern center each day than the day before. The Center is sex-positive and provides advocacy and critical health and social support services to support our community members through all stages of life, focusing on our deeply held values of equity, social justice, and client-centered, trauma-informed care. The Center currently has over 100 staff working at five facilities across San Diego County.

As of April 1, 2023, the Center has relaxed its COVID-19 vaccination requirement for employment. New employees are encouraged but not required to be vaccinated. The Centre reserves the right to amend this requirement based on health concerns and/or governmental recommendations to protect the well-being of our community. If this requirement changes, employees will have 30 days to comply.

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Training & Community Education Manager, the Leadership Academy Coordinator will have the exciting opportunity to build upon our initial phase of the new Leadership Academy, which at a high level includes leading this work through an organizational development lens by creating new workshop topics and curriculum, identifying workshop facilitators, inviting staff to participate, and working with our Quality Assurance team to create and track our Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). The ideal candidate should bring enthusiastic, positive team-building experience, strategic, and solution-focused, as this role will oversee our new Leadership Academy for our talented Center staff.

PRIMARY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program Design, Implementation & Evaluation

  • Collaboratively engage Center departments in identifying skills development needs along the entire organizational chart in a manner that aligns with The Center's commitments to organizational change.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and assess learning outcomes as well as program outcomes, which includes evaluating the successful delivery of Leadership Academy workshops.
  • Lead the development, planning, and implementation of The Center's Leadership Academy workshops to include developing and scheduling of specific training opportunities.
  • Co-facilitate Leadership Academy worships as appropriate and necessary.
  • Lead the recruitment and selection of Leadership Academy workshop facilitators and training topics, which may include internal (Center staff) and external (non-Center staff) facilitators.
  • Identify areas for additional training and development to expand Leadership Academy learning opportunities for Center staff.
  • Lead internal communication to Center staff about the Leadership Academy training opportunities.
  • Assist with Leadership Academy budget tracking and spending.
  • Prepare monthly internal comprehensive narrative and statistical reports on the successes of the Leadership Academy.
  • In collaboration with The Center's grant department, prepare required funder reports on the success of the Leadership Academy.
  • Remain informed and knowledgeable of current non-profit and social justice leadership training trends and practices.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Operate as a team member and work collaboratively while performing duties essential to the achievement of efficient delivery of education for staff.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with Center colleagues, staff, and leadership.
  • Work collaboratively with The Center's IT department to identify, integrate, and assess technical requirements for the effective delivery of Leadership Academy workshops and events.
  • Collaborate with the People and Culture department and Center leadership to invite new staff members to participate in the Leadership Academy.
  • Ability to receive and implement constructive feedback from staff and leadership.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills in writing and speaking both 1:1 and in groups.
  • Use active listening skills and communicate with clarity.
  • Create a welcoming environment where the dignity of all staff is embraced and maintained.
  • Ability to support a sense of belonging, well-being, and leadership development for all Center staff, volunteers, and clients.

Leadership Skills

  • Ability to maintain flexibility and composure in a versatile work environment with evolving work situations.
  • Assume responsibility, address problems, and exercise independent judgment when making decisions and interacting with diverse personalities and populations.
  • Ability to apply various organizational skills in order to prioritize workload effectively, satisfy deadlines, and work on multiple concurrent tasks.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education/Experience: 2 years of experience developing curriculum for workshops and evaluating learning success; experience and comfort with public speaking.
  • Personal Skills: Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and racial/ethnic backgrounds of Center staff members; demonstrated understanding of sexual orientation, gender identity, and the use of pronouns.
  • Technology Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Language Skills: Fluency in English.
  • Other: Reliable transportation; ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.

preferred QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education/Experience: 3 years of experience developing curriculum for workshops and evaluating learning success; experience and comfort with public speaking.
  • Technology Skills: Proficiency with Canva or Prezi.
  • Other Skills: Those with lived expertise as a member of a historically under-served community (i.e., low-income, communities of color, LGBTQ communities, immigrant communities, etc.) are strongly encouraged to apply.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

  • Compensation : The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $24.00 and is commensurate with experience. This is a Full-Time, Regular, Non-Exempt
