All Registered nurses working at the CSU are qualified and may be asked to work all nursing positions within in CSU, this is to include but not limited to the children’s unit, adult charge and medication nurse. All registered nurses may be asked to “float” to a different position within the CSU as needed, this includes the assessment nurse, medication nurse, charge nurse, and children’s nurse. Also, as Acute Care Nurses they may be asked to work at Detox.

Consistently provide treatment in accordance with physician orders and person-centered treatment plans. This includes, but is not limited to completing the nursing assessment and/or the administration of medication as prescribed by the providers orders and according to competency and consent regulations. Report any side effects or complaints to the charge nurse and/or physician.

Accurately documents provided nursing care and behavioral observations in the patient’s clinical record throughout each shift.

Regularly provides nursing care including nursing assessments and medication administration. Complete admission and discharge form according to unit policies and procedures. Provides Nursing Assessment summary and nursing diagnosis for all patients.

Participates as a member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team attending patient’s staffing and treatment team meetings. Develops the initial treatment plan and provides input in the ongoing development and implementation of the treatment plan. As a team member, ensure health and safety of all patients by assessing mental and physical condition of patients on each shift and communicate findings to shift charge nurse and/or physician

Provides direct oversight to the Licensed Nurses and Behavioral Health Technicians during non-business hours and communicates performance issues to the Crisis Services Leadership Team.

Initiates restraints or seclusion and provides documentation according to unit policies and procedures. This shall also include participating in the debriefing process after a patient has been restrained and/or placed in seclusion.

Responsible for implementation and coordination of functions related to the delivery of CSU nursing/medical treatments. These functions include the review of any and all hospital documentation to ensure that any patient presenting to the CSU that were transferred from a hospital do not meet any exclusionary criteria as well as for those patient returning from the hospital after being sent out to be medically cleared to ensure that any prescriptions are ordered and any medical barriers have been solved for a safe admission to the CSU.

Responsible for communication with the LPN about the medication administration, medication compliance of patients and policy compliance of staff. This information should be used during the multi-disciplinary treatment team to ensure that patients are receiving continuity of care. Reports audit results and medication education needs to the Nurse Manager and/or designee.

Order formulary medications from pharmacy as needed on a daily basis.

Consistently counts control drugs each shift. Reports change and performance improvement initiatives.

Unfailing interact with patients on an individual and group basis using a person-centered approach, as well as, regularly interacts with patient’s support system, e.g. family, resource coordinators, other agencies, etc. to coordinate patient’s treatment.

Immediately reports to Program Director, Nurse Manager, or designee any staffing issues which may result in negative impact of patient care or safety.

As requested, assist Nurse Manager in orientation of new nursing personnel to their shift.

Regularly attends scheduled nursing meetings to receive appropriate supervision and receive program/facility specific information.

Maintain compliance with staff development training, licensure requirements, and nursing peer reviews.

Performs related duties as assigned by department supervisor.

Routinely demonstrates a sound understanding of and commitment to complying with CARF standards for the Crisis Stabilization Unit, in addition to AHCA, DCF, and other regulatory requirements.

Consistently displays cultural competence and sensitivity to ensure services provided (Assessments/evaluations, treatment planning, discharge planning) incorporate patient specific cultural values.

Will attain competence with in the organizations electronic health record and uses it effectively within required time frames.

Charge Nurse Additional Responsibilities:
Consistently displays appropriate team leadership skills, communication skills, and an ability to prioritize and adapt while under pressure.
Effectively provides direction on processes of admission, service delivery, discharge, and general flow of patients while monitoring unit standards.
Reliably provides guidance on administering care to patients and answering questions regarding policies and procedures.
Pursuant to policy number 3130-150 titled “CSU staffing Pattern” the Charge nurse will have the following key responsibilities, but not limited to:
In the event of a technician and/or nurse calls off, the charge nurse evaluates staffing on all shifts to maintain staffing requirements.
The charge nurse or designee calls in extra staff when the acuity level of the unit increases on all shifts.
The charge nurse assures that the staffing on a shift is able to meet all existing patient situations, as above.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires valid Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of Florida
  • Completion of nursing degree from an accredited college or university
  • Previous detox or substance abuse experience preferred
  • Experience with an EMR preferred; previous Anasazi system usage a plus
