Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Elevate Youth Program Support Staff follow the planned curriculum as well as the direction of the Elevate Youth Program Coordinator Director. This position will supervise groups of youth ages 16-19 to ensure all individual needs are met with dignity and respect, as well as their safety by following YMCA policies and procedures. The Elevate Youth Program Support Staff will model, practice, and carry out the Y core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.

Requirements
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Minimum age of 18 required.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications required within 30 days of hire.
  • Preferred experienced in tutoring or mentoring high school students.
  • Preferred experience with Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Must have a basic understanding of youth development.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Work closely with Elevate Youth Program Coordinator to ensure youth are engaged and accounted for during events and activities, paying special attention to transition times and at the beginning and end of program.
  • Facilitate academic support through individual or group tutoring.
  • Record data and daily/weekly summaries of program events and activities.
  • Participate in community outings, such as college tours, employer tours, school/employer visits, etc., to assist in providing support to the youth and Elevate Youth Program Coordinator.
CURRICULUM PLANNING:
  • Teach youth self-advocacy skills and provide opportunities for independence.
HEALTH AND SAFETY:
  • Care properly for program equipment and check daily for safety.
  • Ensure equipment and materials are organized, stored safely, and easily accessible to children and staff.
  • Monitor indoor and outdoor space daily for health and safety concerns.
  • Report any health and safety concerns immediately to the Manager on Duty in the building.
  • Ensure youth are in line-of-sight or sound of a staff to ensure proximity control. Anticipate where you need to be and what you need to do to prevent problem situations.
  • Follow all YMCA Safety Protocols.
BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT:
  • Establish supportive relationships with youth and implement developmentally appropriate techniques of behavior and group management.
  • Use positive verbal and non-verbal communication with youth to build trusting and stable relationships.
  • Set and consistently communicate limits for acceptable behavior with logical, relevant, and immediate consequences.
