Rutland Regional Medical Center is Hiring an Ophthalmic Assistant Certified Near Rutland, VT

Under the direction of practice providers is responsible for clinical duties such as obtaining medical records, responsible for preparing the patient for the exam, beginning the examination with standard tests and measurements, performing preliminary eye function testing, explaining medication or procedures to patients, sterilizing and cleaning equipment, and maintaining examination rooms and supplies at an outpatient care site. Also responsible for some administrative duties in conjunction with patient contact. Minimum Education High School graduate or equivalent. Coursework in Medical Terminology, Anatomy # Physiology/Biology or equivalent combination of education and experience. Completion of an Ophthalmic Assistant program or other Health Science degree program preferred. Graduate of an Ophthalmic Assistant academic degree program. Minimum Work Experience 1 year experience, preferably in a physician practice or outpatient clinic setting involving patient contact. 1 year of working under the direction of an Ophthalmologist in preparation of meeting the requirements for certification. Required Licenses/Certifications BLS Certification through American Heart Association. Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) within 18 months of hire. Current Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) from the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO). Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Willingness and ability to perform self-study and on-line training for completion of Ophthalmic Assistant program in pursuit of certification within 18 months of hire. Ability to report patient care observations, deviations from patient#s plan of care and other pertinent information under the direct supervision of a provider or certified staff. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated moderate knowledge of basic computer skills. Demonstrated strong knowledge of Medical Terminology. Pay range: $16.94 - $25.15

Minimum Education

* High School graduate or equivalent.
