DATA & RESEARCH ANALYSTSummary DescriptionUnder the supervision of the Office of Continuous Improvement, the data analyst conducts research, evaluates, and analyzes data to inform district and school decision-making processes.
Exemplary Duties/ResponsibilitiesWorks collaboratively with Office of Accountability and district staff; reviews, analyzes, and reports in a user friendly format statistical and informational data related to student performance and district initiatives; compiles reports and prepares charts, graphs, and diagrams to display the data and analyses; assists in the development and maintenance of queries and reports; shares oversight for technical assistance regarding data collection and analysis; provides technical assistance partnerships required for schools involved in the grants; works collaboratively with other department staff and school sites; coordinates the implementation of electronic systems or written procedures necessary to seamlessly gather data elements; works collaboratively with Program Evaluators, program stakeholders, and Office of Continuous Improvement staff to utilize new and existing data to inform recommendations that may lead to improved school experience and academic outcomes for WCSD students; communicates data analysis findings and research information to stakeholders along with district and school site administrators, making complex statistical elements "user-friendly" for data users; works collaboratively with Information Technology to establish electronic processes and written procedures to ensure data entry and collection has integrity and accuracy; and develops custom reports from a variety of databases and assists in the development of a highly functioning performance management data system.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDSEducation/Experience: Any combination of education and experience that could provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in information technology, education, psychology, business, or related field, with extensive course work in data analysis; and/or three (3) years of directly applicable experience in a K-12 public school or college/university environment with educational assessment experience.
OR
  • Master's degree with significant course work in data analysis; and one (1) year of directly applicable experience in a K-12 public school or college/university environment with data analysis experience.
Knowledge of: A wide variety of data reporting, analysis, and communication, especially as it relates to school improvement, student achievement; descriptive and inferential analysis techniques and interpretation; computer applications used for statistical analysis; and provisions of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act.
Skill at: Collecting and analyzing data for a wide array of data sources; querying, integrating and analyzing data from diverse sources; handling complex, ambiguous and inter-related data elements; clear and effective verbal and written communication with the ability to present plain-English interpretations of data analytic results; visualizing data in ways that tell compelling data stories, time management, including prioritizing assignments, handling multiple overlapping projects and meeting deadlines; working both independently and within a collaborative team environment to achieve department goals; ; proficient use of computer software, including Word, Excel, Access, SPSS (or other statistical packages) Query Analyzer (or other Structured Query Language (SQL) software); technical problem-solving; appropriate handling of confidential information; and Infinite Campus other student information data systems is desirable.
Licenses/Certificates: Possession of or ability to obtain a State of Nevada driver license with a driving record acceptable to the district; ability to drive and maintain mobile unit.

Grade 26
Salary: $69,805 (entry step)
Salaries are subject to adjustment and may increase and decrease each fiscal year. New employees hired by the Washoe County School District are normally placed on the entry step of the grade of the position.

The Washoe County School District pays an additional legislatively-designated amount to the Public Employees Retirement System on behalf of the employee for retirement benefits. No retirement contribution is made by the employee.
New employees will be fingerprinted upon hire and every five years thereafter and will have $58.50 deducted from their first paycheck to help defray the cost of fingerprinting. Non-licensed employees will have $58.50 deduction when their fingerprints are completed every five years. Fingerprint fees are subject to change.Beginning July 1,2023: If you are enrolling in our health insurance plan and submit all proper documentation, you should know that there is no waiting period, your medical, dental, vision and life insurance will become effective on your first contracted work day.Benefits are paid by employees at a prorated percent for those working less than full time.
