Patient Service Clerk- Rout Neonatal ICU A Brief Overview Promotes positive guest relations by greeting, assisting, and monitoring patient flow through the Primary Care clinics. Performs receptionist and/or general clerical duties including data entry, filing and patient registration in accordance with established policies and procedures. What you will do
Interacts with all visitors, coworkers and other departments in a customer friendly manner. * Acknowledges individuals that enter the clinic in a helpful and courteous manner. * Identifies ways to assist the individual. * Provides assistance to individuals who may need directions. * Relays information appropriately over telephone and pagers. * Assists individuals in finding resources in the patient care area.
Provides support by performing various clerical duties and functions within clinic operations to affect a smooth, efficient and customer responsive patient flow of services. * Provides support for clinical area by gathering patient files, locating test results, reminding patients of appointments and submitting complete patient information to medical and nursing staff. * Registers patients in the appropriate clinic * orders medical records * provides medical/nursing staff with accurate paperwork and records. * Places calls to schedule appointments, tests, treatments, examinations, procedures or specialty consultations as directed by medical and nursing staff to facilitate a coordinated flow of patients' medical evaluation process. * Manages flow of patients ensuring follow-up of all patients. Monitors waiting times of patients ensuring no patient experiences a lengthy wait without the checking on the rationale for the wait and explanation of wait to patient(s). * Ensures proper disposition of patient to ancillary area for diagnostic tests through written/verbal directions or assistance by transportation department. * Informs medical/nursing staff of laboratory and diagnostic study results * collects and mails test results and discharge summaries to referring physicians. * Inputs patient data into computer system * Completes admission requests for physicians * coordinates with the admitting staff for admission information. * Collects and receipts payments on accounts. * Stocks supplies to complete patient packets * maintains patients' files. * Transports mail, records, reports and files. * Organizes and prioritizes work to meet turn-around time requirements and work demands.
Handles all telephone calls in a customer friendly manner. * Answer calls promptly using the standard department greeting, (department area, name, title). * Provide assistance and answer inquiries. * Take complete and accurate messages and ensure the message is delivered to the appropriate person. * Transfer calls to the appropriate area.
Assembles and/or disassembles patient charts/medical records as required; checks information on all related documents to ensure that information is provided expediently to appropriate medical/clinical personnel; retrieves and attaches documentation to medical record. Reviews provider's update of electronic medical record and transcribes necessary data as required.
Utilizes computer and related equipment to update, revise and maintain all information in the identified computer system. * Enters and updates patient information accurately and in a timely manner. * Transfers and/or discharges patients correctly. * Selects patients correctly. * Enters patient charges accurately and in a timely manner. Reconciles discrepancies to avoid delays in patient billing. * Cancels orders and credits charges correctly. * Displays results successfully. * Displays Pharmacy Medication Profile successfully as applicable.
Works effectively as a team member within clinic and with patients to provide quality service through communication, cooperation and collaboration. * Interacts and works collaboratively with patient/family/hospital staff in a customer responsive and courteous manner, in compliance with iRESPECT standards and promoting patient/customer satisfaction. * Assists personnel when needed by performing tasks to ensure department meets workload demands.
Prepares and maintains required statistics, records, files and reports for operational, administrative and compliance purposes.
Maintains confidentiality of patient, department and hospital information. Adheres to established department and organization policies in processing and releasing patient information (i.e. HIPPA, Confidentiality, and Compliance Policies).
Maintains a clean, orderly, safe environment within the clinic unit and patient waiting areas. Adheres to established policies, compliance/quality improvement, patient safety, environment and infection control standards.
Completes required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements. Responds to problems/opportunities to improve work environment and participates in unit based performance improvement activities.
Assists with care and maintenance of department equipment and utilizes supplies in a cost effective manner. * Requisitions, receives, distributes and utilizes unit supplies effectively. * Reports malfunction of equipment to supervisor.
Provides coverage for relief and absences as required. Demonstrates flexibility of work schedule/duty assignments.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent with related course work Required and
Completion of a clerical or general office program Preferred
Minimum 1 year experience Twelve (12) months clerical, customer service, or related experience such as medical office, administrative, general clerical or customer/guest services. Required and
Completion of a unit clerk, medical office, general clerical, customer service training or equivalent education may be utilized in lieu of experience (documentation required). Required
