This position is a 100% contract appointment till 2/28/2025 with the possibility of extension.

DESCRIPTION

As a member of the University of California, San Diego's Fusion Center team responsible for COVID-19 Case Investigation & Outbreak Monitoring for continuing Cal/OSHA regulations, other infectious disease investigation, and for workplace health crisis management, the Fusion Center EHS Specialist reporting to the Infection Prevention Supervisor will assist in providing support to the campus Fusion Center's Case Investigation, Contract Tracing, Outbreak Management and/or other derivations of the UCSD Fusion Center Public Health Team.

Performs entry-level duties in the fields of infectious disease investigation, data entry, data management, environmental health, environmental health (sanitation), environmental protection, and emergency services: and uses basic concepts / equipment. Assists UCSD Fusion Center Public Health Team including student employees and the department of Environment, Health and Safety's EHS Specialists. Performs tasks from detailed instructions and established procedures on typically non-complex assignments in support of professional program(s). Work is regularly reviewed for understanding of professional concepts and following defined policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Basic knowledge / understanding of relevant EH&S field(s), and related regulations. Basic knowledge of mitigation tools and adapting with the changing topography of the pandemic.

  • Organizational skills to plan, organize, and prioritize work. Ability to multi-task in a high-volume environment. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and set priorities to accurately reflect relative importance of job responsibilities.

  • Written and interpersonal communication skills to communicate effectively. Oral and written communication skills necessary to impart health and safety information to a diverse group of people. Ability to employing tact, diplomacy and flexibility.

  • Skill in following basic instructions and providing input and feedback as required. Ability to use accepted professional practices to evaluate and respond to emergency situations. Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet and database software to review data, prepare reports and training materials.

  • Knowledge of basic listening, critical thinking, and analytical skills. Ability to identify, collect, and analyze information from multiple sources.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.

  • Basic skills to appropriately use technology and relevant scientific equipment as required.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on DOJ/FBI background check results.

  • Mandated Reporter: This position has been identified as a Mandated Reporter pursuant to the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and requires immediate reporting of physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, or neglect of anyone under the age of 18. It is the responsibility of the Mandated Reporter to ensure that they obtain proper training in order to fulfill their reporting responsibilities as required by the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and University policy, and to complete and submit the required reports to the UC San Diego Police Department without delay.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $56,700 - $97,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $27.16 - $46.70

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
